PnP Aux-In Solution!! with PIE Alpine Adapter
#301
You need the two PIE adapters -- the one that plugs into the back of the HU and the one that plugs into the first one and has two RCA jacks (female connectors) on it.
Whatever cable you need to connect to the RCA jacls will depend on what you want to use as a source (iPod, Rio, Nomad, Archos, etc).

Just installed mine today- add me to the list of "it worked". It sounds great with my RCA Lyra 40GB now safely tucked away in the center console. One question- does the '1' in EX1 always blink? I had it playing for about 20 minutes and it just keeps blinking... not really a problem but just odd.
My specs:
Bose+6CD+Tape+NAV, ver 9.55, build date 9/03

well, being a 04 mazda6 owner...i will add to this thread per a request.
I can not get the button combo to work to get the version number.
The only combos i can get to work are:
While Radio is on>
Pwr+Seek = Display Test (lights up every image on the display)
Pwr+Scan = Displays "AMP ON"
Pwr+Disp = Speaker Test
Pwr+#2 = Signal Str of station
While Radio is Off>
Text+#1 = an beep that has an alternating sound while pressed, maybe an On and Off sound. I have no clue what it does.
Text+#4 = same as above
Holding down the Text button with ANY combo when the radio is ON causes the radio to display "Clear" and it resets the bass, treb, etc etc.

u are still doing it wrong
push and hold the TExt button first then hold the preset 1 button at the same time.
if it is saying clear you are just pushing the preset button first and clearing its saved memory.

What it means is that your HU will work with the PIE adapter set. This will give you one pair of line-level inputs. What you use them for is up to you. I have split mine into three and am using one for DVD audio and the other two for DAPs (Digital Audio Players). You can certainly use it for satellite radio of any brand, but you WON"T get radio station nor song info on your LED display.

Actually, I think bean438 was referring to being able to install the satellite radio option that is supposed to be an option in the '05. I assume the reason why he was asking that is because Mazdaradiodoc mentioned that version 9.67 was supposed to be compatible with satellite radio.
I think Mazdaradiodoc would have to be the one to answer that, but I wouldn't be too concerned with the fact that there is no "SAT" button. When we get a look at the '05 Head Unit, we might see that they just used one of the existing buttons to select "SAT" (or changed the "CD" button into a "Source" button, or something like that), and your head unit just might work that same way.

Actually I am not even sure about satellite radio anymore. I was down in the USA for holidays and checked out xm and sirrus. I didnt realize I had to pay for the unit itself. I figured it was like the cell phones: free phone with 12 month plan type deal.
This would be the way to go. In fact I am surprised that this isnt so. Its not about money because if you can afford an 8 you can afford a couple a hundred bucks for a sat radio, its just the principle.
I already get sirrus at home via Dishnetwork. For the car I can live with 6 cd's.
Too bad because now that I know the pie will work I dont think I will need it.
Although an Ipod or simmilar unit sounds appealing.

As of today I "ASSume" 9.67 will be the version used for 05'. I have not seen the actual HU. I have only seen the spec's for the radio, the same except it will have a SAT button on face of radio. I have not tried SAT with an 04' 9.67 ver. I have tried SAT with version 9.53 and it does not work.
Sorry I made it sound like I know for a fact what version 05' will have.

My PIE box resides right under the radio, in place of the factory tape/MD player, so it's pretty much part of the radio assembly now. The cables need to run only to the ashtray because that's where the wired remote unit will be mounted for my Neo MP3 player.
Pics will follow once it gets done... soon.
Edit: Sorry, I goofed... :o - the RCA cables will run to the trunk, not the ashtray. They will run in the center console all the way to the back where the hard drive unit for the MP3 player is mounted.
From there, a separate cable will go to the ashtray for the aforementioned wired remote.

I wonder if that will be Satellite compatible

Hm... thew's head unit was also built before 8/2004... in fact EVERYBODY's head unit was built before that :p
This still doesn't guarantee that you get one with software version 9.55 or higher, although the likelihood is certainly good.
