Sure... the parts are about 3 grand, plus a pain in the *** installation with the typical hourly rate of, let's say, 80 bucks - you can do the math if it's worth it.

It costs $2000 to buy the navigation either already in your new car or to purchase it to be installed at the same day you buy your car. Otherwise it costs $3500 for the navigation system which is also supposed to include installation.

You can't really. The RX-8 has speed/yaw sensors on the wheels and other places that work in conjuction with the satellites. On Mazda's site they say it is a factory option only and cannot be added by the dealer. Your best bet is to get a TomTom or something like that.

Yep it's expensive and time consuming to install. Your better off buying an aftermarket navigation system. I got the Garmin Streetpilot 2720. for mine and couldn't be happier.

Really??? When I was seeing about getting a 2005 (back in October) that had everying in it that I wanted except for the Navigation, the dealer down in Salem quoted me it was $2000 to get it installed IF I purchased it that day. But if I decided later on that I wanted it, it would cost me $3500 to get one plus installation. However, since it was year-end clearance it would cost me $3500 anyway.

It's a moot point for me anyway since the car I have on order has it already.

OEM Nav is a Factory installed option only. Your dealer was playing the usual dealer games with you.
