DELAYED UP SHIFTING AFTER AGGRESSIVE DRIVING
Applicable Models
# 2004 - RX8 VIN Range: 000000 - ZZZZZZ;
# 2005 - RX8 VIN Range: 000000 - ZZZZZZ;
Symptoms
# 250 VEHICLE WILL NOT MOVE/NO SHIFT(A/T ONLY)
# 270 TIMELAG/TRANSMISSION SLIPPING/INCORRECT SHIFT POINTS
MTOL - 4614 Dealer Repair Information
Some customers may complain of an up shift delay at times that can last
up to 3 seconds in duration. This may occur after hard driving N shortly
after shifting returns to normal. The TCM has a specific learning mode
for changing shift logic. The TCM main inputs for learning mode to
adjust shift logic are VSS N TVO. If the TVO N VSS change rapidly, (high
% TVO N rapid increase of VSS) TCM goes into "sport mode" logic, N
changes to higher rpm shifts, holds in gear without up shifting for
several seconds, etc. In order for the TCM to return to "normal mode"
from "sport mode", the TCM must see the TVO / VSS stabilize to indicate
a steady throttle application.
It is at this moment the customer may see the delay of 3 seconds to up
shift before TCM logic returns to "normal mode", N normal shifting
returns.
Also, the TCM may decide to hold a gear regardless of TVO while driving
through certain corners. The TCM uses CAN signals from the ABS/DSC
module to determine if vehicle is cornering, N then holds transmission
in gear while traveling through the turn. It's purpose is to eliminate
the lag to downshift when the throttle is depressed after exiting the
turn, N to keep engine in the correct power band.
Both of these characteristics are considered normal N NO repairs should
be attempted.
