Clarkson on the NEW MX-5..
"Everything about the new MX-5 is perfectly judged so that what you end up with is a slightly more practical, slightly better looking version of something you loved anyway"
Again he has to add "This is the kind of gay I adore", to his starting drivvel...,why does he always have to have "GAY" in every bloody MAZDA test....?
IMO He really is a F..K Head, funny at times though...
He gives the MX-5 ....4 out of 5

Remember his closing comment on our RX-8.....
"There is, however, an upside to this. People will be so busy examining the curved front, the striking back and the endless detailing, to notice the driver’s a poof. "
He also gave the RX-8 4/5 stars....Is there a connection/mating here?

"they haven’t evolved the old version so much as sent it to the gym. It now looks like it means business, like it might be more of a “serious” sports car. A rival perhaps for the more grown-up, more heterosexual Honda S2000"
he pretty much means .. gay .. agreed
i dont think he called the rx8 gay though .. so it's not a mazda theme

Isn't it time yet to start losing the usage of negative gay stereotypes? And don't give me crap about how I need to lighten up and the whole bit about "said with a twinkle in his eye." I think we stopped seeing usage of most racial slurs and gender stereotypes in any semblance of a respectable publication a long long time ago. Am I the only chauvinistically female-obsessed straight guy who cringes when they come across these things in our so-called modern society?

Its about time "dick heads" like Clarkson act his age, and grow up.
Anyway, enough of this subject matter, how about the new MX-5, I would drive/own one any day.

From: I've shaken off the sands of SouthWest Asia and returned to Houston and Gulfport, MS
Verdict: Hairdressing just got butch.
Man, "drivel" is sure the operative word here. I had to scan through a thousand words of nonsense before getting to anything even resembling an auto review.

In one of the 3 or 4 JDM "new car" mags I was reading, it mentioned a retractable hardtop miata... made with particularly the US market in mind (even had a pic).
I bet with that... besides making the car heavier and slower... you'll lose most of your trunk. The Solstice/Sky is looking even better... especially in the GXP/Red line versions.

If you're worried about trunk space, why do you need to get the hardtop version? Just settle for the softtop and everything should be fine. Besides, even with the folding hardtop I'm willing to bet the MX-5 would still be significantly lighter than the Solstice. If trunk was your first concern, well, have you seen the "trunk" in the Solstice?

No the opposite was my point. The Miata will both be heavier and also lose it's trunk "advantage" that some would say it has.
I'd buy neither, because I don't like 2 seater cars and I particularly don't care to own a convertible (MAYBE a retractable hardtop). So none of this is an issue for me... just academic discussion.

A retracting hard top is certainly better than the previous hard tops where you have to lift it off the car and figure out where you are going ot put it, which would certainly be a hassle storage wise, especially if you don't have a garage.
