Turbo Installed!!
Finally after months of waiting, saving, and agonizing my car is done! I was dropped off at Mazsport on Friday morning while they were still doing some last minute work on the car. I sat tight for awhile until they finished then Scott suggested I take a spin in the car with the Profec off before we hit the dyno to get a feel for the mystery known as torque while the guys grabbed lunch.
I was nervous as hell when Scott handed me my keys, but that was all soon channeled through the right foot. Mid day traffic in Pinellas county is no place to open up a car, but where I could, I did. The car was truely a rocket. Unbelievably smooth, and I found myself grossly misjuding my speed; just like I did when I traded my civic in for the 8 two years ago. There is torque everywhere, any gear, any rpm and it's right there. Going from 70-100 in 6th gear is effortless, and the whole car acts a precision instrument for exploiting any gap in traffic. And yes, it was this much fun at 5.5psi.
Then we hit the dyno...
I really didn't know what to expect. I had never put a car on the dyno before, so I really had no idea kind of numbers to expect just based on my butt dyno. We strapped down, warmed up, and did a 5th gear pull with the boost controller off. The numbers shocked me. With nothing but the greddy kit, interceptor-x, stock midpipe, and HKS exhaust the car put down 275whp and 206 tq!!! This was with the stock interceptor map. I was aboslutely amazed. The torque was smooth, holding steady from 3300 to 7000. Being satisfied with the AFR's (which are near perfect :D) we bumped up the gain up on the boost controler about 7% at a time watching the duty cycle on the injectors after each run. Pressure, gear, rpm, target boost all changed slightly between runs, but the AFR stayed dead on. The Interceptor is the EMS everyone should have. Each increase in boost simply bumped the torque curve up. We ended up at 9psi (I wanted to leave some headroom open in the name of sanity) and put down 276/225 to the wheels, and the car was damn hot.
The car is simply insane now. I was worried I'd miss the smooth NA pull all the way to 9000, but it is definately still there. It's just as smooth, only heavily amplified.
Aside from the Interceptor-X (for which I will say, there is no substitute) Mazsport is a great company. If you can make arrangements and are looking to go FI, definately give them serious consideration. After seeing the way they work on cars, I have the greatest confidence in the integrity of my car, something most people with aftermarket turbos dare not say.
Oh, I didn't want to spoil the ending...so here's the dyno plots lol. The numbers I quoted above were uncorrected, and youll see the SAE numbers a just a hair lower

Yeah I read your write up on the Florida forum. Sounds like it's a totally different car now. And from what I can tell you seem pretty happy with it so far. Congrats!

Nice and still be able to get power till 8000 rpm, you guys are sure lucky to have Mazsport over there. Literally noone knows how to tune a rotary in my country, I sure hope you guys can help me out if I decide getting the turbo.

the graph is SAE corrected, my quoted numbers were uncorrected (that's what we were lookin at on the dyno, and i exported this jpg using SAE correction)
i dont know what the break is all about, but i do know the clutch was slipping on previous runs (although that wouldn't spike it upward, but who knows)

also forgot to mention:
v3 of the interceptor (which I have) now has fully functional cruise control. I never used me CC much before, but with the turbo it's definately a must have. Crusing at ~70mph in 6th puts you on a fine line of throttle position between vacuum and boost. Using the CC when possible keeps it in vac.
While cruising under vacuum, the afr's lean out considerably. This almost counteracts the gas used under boost, and so far i'm getting about the same miles per tank as before, and I have been boosting...ALOT
Also there is improved MPG while cruising with the AC on.
The idle is as good as stock when the engine is warm, the cold idle map is a little rough, but once I get a laptop, I may be able to fix that a little bit.
CEL is still there, but most of us have to live with that anyway due to a catless midpipe.

Congrats man!
So if I want to get the exact same setup (performed by Scott), how much will it cost me, and how would this work given that I live near Seattle, WA?

Mazsport's rate is 75/hour for parts purchase through them. My install took 12 hours for the kit alone. Welding of my BOV, tuning time, and a handful of npt fittings and tubing were all extra.
Scott's got a bunch of cars at his shop from out of state, but my guess is you'd have to have it trucked to Largo.

Are you SERIOUS!? I did it in less time than that on JACKSTANDS the first time I installed it! something seems very wrong here considering they have a LIFT and I'd bet they have done more than one kit. I wonder if something complicated your install....

No, I was quoted at 12 hours.
that 12 hours includes road time with the datalogger to be sure everything functioned properly under real world conditions (ie - 10 minutes in traffic, stopped, AC on full, 90 degree ambient), as well as little things like tapping the pressure source at the compressor housing, setting up the profec, etc.
