ScanGauge II - OBD II scanner / Trip Computer / Digital Gauges
Just got a new gadget called ScanGauge II for trials. It's a 3-in-1 "automotive computer" that is pretty neat and provides some pretty useful information. Customisable backlight too, bonus!
Basically, it is an OBD II scanner that can read your car's error codes and can also clear them to get rid of the Check Engine Light (CEL).
It is also a trip computer that automatically tracks your current trip, today's trip, previous day's trip and current fuel tank's trip and can give you all the usual trip computer information such as max speed, max water temp, max engine rpm, average speed, average fuel consumption, trip miles, trip time, trip fuel used, fuel used since last fill-up, fuel remaining, distance since last fill-up, distance remaining, time since last fill-up, time remaining.
Last but not least, it is a digital gauge that simultaneously displays 4 pieces of data read from your ECU. You can set any of the 4 readings to display your current fuel consumption (litres/100km or litres/hr), battery voltage, water temp, intake air temp, intake manifold air pressure, engine rpm, speed (adjustable), engine load, throttle position, ignition advance/retard, etc.
Anyone interested can check out this device at www.scangauge.com. If interested to purchase, can PM me or post questions in this thread. I'm not related or associated with the distributor in any way nor am I promoting this for financial gains. Whatever price the distributor sells is whatever price you pay. Just always wanted a trip computer felt the RX-8 should have come with one as standard being Mazda's "flagship" model. So just wanted to share the info on this new device to other interested 8 owners. By the way, it's been tested to work on both Euro and JDM spec 8s, so it should be compatible with all 8s.

Yup, I'm a gadget addict... I didn't wanna post sensitive price information, but I guess Henry helped me with that and thanks for posting the pics too. Anyway, as stated unit price is SGD $329 and last 2 pieces in stock. New stock is expected in August.
I'm trying to get a better price for all our club members and trying to avoid having to organise any GB/MO thingie so as to stay within the forum guidelines. Those who are interested can post here or PM me.

Looks really nice, but not really sure what it can do on the 8. For that kind of money, better know what I can use it for but unfortunately not much info available.

looks really cool, but the website doesn't say actual compatibility ... it says odb2 connector, but I've found from past dealings, odb2 doesn't mean it will work. It needs to be canbus compatable.
since you are saying it works on your rx-8, I would then assume it is canbus compatable... but again, the website doesn't say it is...

Yup, buddies but not exactly new, coz we have been working together all this while but just realised it recently.
To answer your questions, yes it's pure PnP. Plug into your OBD port and Play to your hearts content, but MAKE SURE YOU WATCH THE ROAD! This things gives a lot of information and it's so tempting to look and play with it. Might need to route the wiring a little depending on where you want to mount the controller/display unit. And yes, units are configurable. Distance - Miles/KM, Temperature - °F/°C, Pressure - PSI/KPA, Fuel - Gallons/Litres. You also have to set your engine capacity, type of fuel (gas, diesel, hybrid, LPG) and your fuel tank capacity. You can also choose your backlight colour from 63 different colours (4 different levels of red/green/blue minus black) and you can also set a speed adjustment % to compensate for different rim/tyre size and other mods that may affect speedo readout such as final drive, etc.
Just an update. It is unable to show FPR (fuel pressure) as our ECU does not report this data. Seems that very few vehicles do anyway.

I think Euro spec and JDM spec 8s in Singapore may be using different protocols, but ScanGauge II is able to read and work on both. If it doesn't work, don't have to buy.

Actually, I've tried taking a few pics of the ScanGauge II, but pics really doesn't do justice to such a nifty little gadget. Pics tend to turn out dark and you can't make out the display if you don't use a flash, but if you do, it washes out the backlighting and you end up with a regular colourless dot matrix LCD screen like the one I've posted above. Best is to see it live in person. Both Derek and myself will be at Saturday night's movie event meet-up, so anyone who wants to check out the ScanGauge II can come look us up. New stock arriving very soon, but unfortunately mostly reserved and only limited pieces available.

I gave it another shot at trying to capture the backlight colour and this is the best I came up with for my windscreen installation. Other ScanGauge owners who installed elsewhere on their rides might be able to come up with better pics since they might not have such tricky lighting conditions for photo taking.
Anyway, got another toy in the car today to show and tell. Tire Pressure Monitoring System.
