2007 Season So Cal Auto Cross Thread
Time to start the 2007 seasons auto cross thread. the old (2006) thread was located in the west section here https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...4&page=1&pp=40 I thought that it would be more appropriate in the racing section this time around. (2005 thread https://www.rx8club.com/west-rx-8-forum-34/san-bernardino-meet-auto-cross-thread-82773/ )
This year we are continuing the “RX-8 CUP” which is basically us RX-8 guys that get together at the CSCC autocross events at California speedway in Fontana Ca. anyone that shows up and runs is entered into the RX-8 cup points system. (even if you don’t want to be. ) as seen below.
The biggest difference this year is that we are implementing the new points index system. Last year it was a simple who got the fastest time won. This was unfair to the guys running street tires vs the guys running race tires. With the new index the guys running street tires at least have a fighting chance to place well in the RX-8 Cup points.

all RX-8 Cup rules were voted and agreed on in the 2006 thread.
New RX-8 Cup points RULES for 2007 These are the rules/classes we set for our own RX-8 cup.
BS: SCCA stock class rules.
BSST: SCCA stock class rules with the added restriction of 140 tread-wear tires, consistent with the Cal Club and San Diego street tire class.
STU: SCCA STU class rules plus allow BSP legal flywheel/clutch upgrade.
BSP: SCCA BSP rules plus allow SM/STU legal wings and body kit (aka bling mods).
SM: SCCA SM rules, any RX8 with forced induction, motor swap or interior removed beyond STU/BSP rules. We can also full on race slicks.
New RX-8 Cup points indexing for 2007
SM: raw time
BSP: .99
BS: .975
STU: .965
BSST: .94
EXAMPLE:
Based on a SM car running a 60 sec run that allows a BSP to go .7 slower than SM.
A BS car gets a .8 cushion on BSP.
STU gets .6 on BS.
BSST is 2.3 behind BS.
Lowest 3 Races Droped.
The lowest 3 races for each driver will be droped. (10/13 races count)
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
RX-8 cup top 3 finishes (and scedule) (any SM class or lower car is "qualified") all RX-8 cup races are at with the CSCC points scedule..

exactly
your pulleys and flywheel put you into our own STU class. (because you are still running street tires)
of course when you run at the track you are considered a BSP car. (because of the flywheel and pulleys) but you already knew that.
EDIT:
Didnt want this in the first post, but wanted it near the top.. here are the final results from the 2006 season. Congrats Isley! (as if we thought other wise.)

2007 RX8 Cup
With only the December event left in the 2006 RX8 Cup Season, the cup is going to go to Ulllose, with second place going to MP5....Congradulations. I will always have to second guess my decision in November to have MP5 codrive my car....but heh, this is just for fun...and it was interesting to see someone new drive my car and get some feedback on the setup.
The results will most likely be the same for the 2007 season, but we have made some changes to indexing that should make the battle for 3rd-6th interesting.
Good luck to all, this weekend in Fontana. I hope we can make a decision as a group whether we want to have static cling "RX8 Cup" stickers for the 2007 season, as well as whether a 2006 RX8 Cup Champion static is something we want to make to acknowledge this years winner.
See you guys Saturday.
EDIT: Wow, I pulled out a win in the last event of the year....weather conditions played a critical role in finishing position, but like Ullose said, this is why we allow ourselves the ability to throw two events out.

that, and I think the racing section this time around might pull some new interest. either way I think it belongs in here more.

You guys really should condense those posts or our thread will get kicked into the lounge or back to the regional forum. We need to keep to the topic, as much as possible.
I agree with posting it in the Racing Section, as it may draw more attention to people in this section that may not have been aware of the 2006 thread in the regional forum. I would like to stir up some more interest and keep the Cup Series exciting. The rules we have are good for this year, and as Ulllose said, the indexing is good for this year (given that we will gain some additional experience this year), but we may need to adjust it more next year. Afterall, Jason did run a 68.xxx in the "SM" car....so Casey's 69.xxx is still showing the gap that driver experience has with our driving.
I don't anticipate making any changes to my car for the 2007 season. I would like to get the Koni Yellows, as well as get an alignment with a moderate race/street setup....and also anticipate having to buy new tires at some point. I think I am near 20 runs with the 285's....so maybe midway through the 07 season, depending on if I get down to SD like I would like.
Both Jason's have driven my car, and have had similar comments. Alignment, and soft strut setting. Casey, you need to get the guys into your car...have Ulllose do an "Instructor" run in your car at the next event...and then figure out a time to get MP5 into the car. It was helpful...for the feedback, as well as the time gap that appears when you see their times compared to yours.
As for Razz1, I am interested, but I am in a similar position to Casey right now with money. I have the time and interest. Ghost is also anxious to see us go out with him to the track. Both Casey and I will return the favor in due time. I am speaking for myself, but I would imagine that Casey and I would like to go out to the same event, would make for a fun day to have all of us out there together.
Casey, didn't meant to duplicate the points post...I removed it.

I thought the point of the new 07 thread was to start clean... looks like we already failed miserably. I do think it belongs in the West forum, just because most of the guys in here are National autoxers who don't give a crap about our cup.
Keith, you gotta have more than 20 runs by now right? 4 CalClub events with co-drivers + 1 SD event. I'm just waiting for you guys to get more runs on your tires so they start slowing down.

Yeah, you may be right....I lost my computer file where I was keeping my tire wear info...I don't think I updated it yet for the SD runs on Saturday...and the 7 runs (including the one instructor run) at Fontana...so probably closer to 32/33.

ok mr. fun killer, I said I would remove the junk post...... dork.
I have not been paying attention to tire wear this time aound. I dont know why, just havent. with the 245's I used to keep AWSOME track of the runs. but for some reason wit the 285's I just dont. although it wouldent be all that hard to get a rough Idea. I would put it right off the top of my head close to 50 runs total. granted some of them being rather easy laps.
EDIT: there Mr. poopy pants. I deleted about 5 post.

yeah, us BSP guys are STILL not running as fast as the two jasons in the BS cars. that shows how far behind in times we really are. but like Isley said, we are in our first year (I guess that is over now huh?) and we are still learning. I give it about 10 years, then we will ge running the times that we need to be.

I'm going to try to come down to SoCal and run a weekend with you guys...I'll also talk to Bryan Heitcotter, who recently bought the ex-Derek Butts' BS MR2 Turbo, and see if he wants to come along. He may prove to be very fast in that car...with JGW and him, you guys won't have to worry about BS being a "spec class"
