RP Axial Flow Short Shifter Issues

Ok so just the other day I went to go to work got in my car and started it up.

Upon putting it into gear something felt different.

Im not sure if this is a problem with the transmission or with the short shifter itself

Basically its lost the direct rifle bolt feel. It used to be notchy and direct.

Now when i shift if feels somewhat lose and a bit sloppy almost like stock.

Although reverse is now very easy to get into.

I just tightened the bolts the week before so i dont think that would be the case im going to take it out this weekend and inspect for damage.

anyone have anyclue what happened

Ask RP about the fluid compatibility of the basket/bucket that comes on the shifter.

RP had a thread a while back stating that there are some types of transmission fluids that destroy the delrin bucket that seats at the bottom of the shifter.

Just got your PM and saw the thread. Only thing to do is pull it out and inspect the lower bushing. There were some issues with the Delrin ones but they have been Kevlar for a long time now.
The story on the pivot basket melting from the Lucus oil is a one time thing and I never got the part from the customer to examine. He may have been screwing with me to get an extra part. Can't see why though.

Let me know as soon as you have it out, we fix them for the life of your car.

I just had my STS break tonight. The yellow plastic cup at the bottom of the shifter cracked in several places. The shifter would not go into gear at all so I took it apart to see. My car is in my garage immobile right now unitl I can put the OEM one back in until I get a new piece. Hey RP I sent you an e-mail on your website about it.

I've had it in since June, I emailed Richard yesterday and he responded today to my surprise with it being the holidays and all, which is a testament to his customer service, and is sending me a new bushing today for free and all products are waranteed for life.

I have my stock shifter in right now and it is so spongy compared to the AFE SS. I have a little trouble finding 3rd (I have to be more deliberate in my shifting) sometimes with the stock shifter but with The SS it is very precise and automatic.

I still think it is a very good product overall. I have more confidence going on spirited drives with the AFE SS than the stock shifter just because I know that the gear is going exactly where I want it to, not to mention I can just flick my wrist and it is in gear. The Mazda shifter isn't bad but the SS is just that much better in feel IMHO.

A while back I put in my AFE shifter I must say I didn't notice a "huge" difference, so I drove with it for 2 weeks, then swapped it out thinking it didn't make a difference. Wrong! The stock shift felt so sloppy and loose- it felt like a toy. The reference to calling the AFE short shifter's shifting action to a bolt action rifle is right on

Stock. I know about the Lucas oil. I haven't change my tranny fluid since I bought my 8 brand new. Whatever brand that comes from the Mazda factory was what was in my car. I talked to police34 and he had the same.

Everything that needed service has been shiped as of Friday. I'm out of town now until the 6th. I'm off to Orlando for the Advanced Engine Technolagy Conference and a day for the Performance Industry Show. I can still be reached via the website.

RAP

Not sure but I think I'm at the Quality Inn.

On International Dr?

Anyway.........what if I wanted an extra bucket?
Any sense it doing so since mine has only been in about four months or so and no issues?
When did you move to Kevlar?
Would you sell just the bucket?

Thanks,

Dave
