gas question

this week i put $20 gas with 99.8/litre 87 octane when the light came on, i monitor how many kilometers i would get for the 20 and i run it low till the light come on, so my results were 120 kilometers is anyone getting the same thing? i do normal driving and i check for the fuel economy for this car i know that it's bad on gas and numbers i got was 9ltrs/100km on highway and 12ltrs/100km on city am i having the worse litres/100km?? So i guess i'm getting at least 20liters/100km right now

That's way off. You should get roughly 160km out of 20L of winter gas, unless you drove your car hard or did nothing but really short trips.

The normal mixed MPG should be around 12L/100km in the summer, and 13L in the winter.

The light is incredibly unreliable! Haven't you noticed that sometimes it'll come on, and then minutes later it'll go off? Don't rely on the light!

If you want to test your fuel consumption, fill up to the first click. Reset your trip odometer. Drive however much you want (as long as you don't have to gas up again). Now fill up to the first click again and remember how much gas you used. Read your trip odometer.

Your gas consumption is:

GasUsedInSecondFillUp (L) / ReadoutOnTripOdometer (km) * 100

I believe this is the best reading you'll ever get.

Wow! You get 12L/100km? That's pretty good. I'm not sure if that's really the norm for our car...

not trying to incur a "not another mileage thread!" response, but I just finished my yearly mileage analysis for your comparison

Two years of fuel consumption overlaid with a 6th order polynomial curve. 57000 km, $7468.11, 13 l/100km average.

I have a 2005 white with 31000km and after driving it for 3 months or so, i'm averaging around 12.5L/100km. A full tank (filling up when the light comes on) will last me about 425km. I think the light comes on when the tank has about 10L left in it b/c my fill up is usually 50-52L. One time i filled up when the needle was way past the "E" line and that was a 56.5L fillup. So like another member mentioned, the light and the gauge is totally unrealiable. lol

The only recall i have done on the vehicle is 4206F (for emissions i believe). I change my oil every 5000km to 6000km at the dealership and fill up using Sunoco 91 or 94. I say about 75% of the time i'm at highway speeds (90km/h+). On the highway i cruse at about 115km/h (3600k rpm) b/c i read somewhere that the 2nd set of ports open at 3750k rpm and the 3rd set at about 7000k rpm... dunno if it actually affects gas mileage or not, can anyone else provide their insight on this??

Hope this helps a bit...

Anyways, its good to know i'm somewhat similar to others in gas mileage.
