overheating!!!! I need help!!!
I have red some threads about overheating, but not like my issue.
I was at a heavy stop and go traffic in miami, outside temp 94 F. my gauge went at 75%-80% to the right (hot as hell) on temp. I couldn't hear the fan blowing, no warning light. I cracked open the hood to let the heat out, when the traffic got better and under some shade the temp started to drop, but damn it was hot. coolant is full, is this normal ? help!!! what can i do to prevent this to happen againg, thanks !!!

check fuses and relays, if fuse is good, the relays are in the front of the box in the engine compartment. wiggle them. The fans on hi can be heard from a good distance. There are some DIYs on setting the fans to come on all the time. I am playing with a slightly different version now to get a low fan. I searched a lot and read a lot and used most of a wiring harness suggested mod. There is a ton of good data in this forum.
I cannot tell how comfortable you are with playing with stuff, so am not able to suggest much of an approach. Checking fans and relays is a good start. there is a thread out there where folks walked someone through a similar problem. I just did not mark it. search for thing like overheating, fans, relay and fan fuse.
Best I got right now.

that is very helpfull, but this afternoon when i parked the car, the fans kept going, it is confuising, the fuses are fine, and on the road as long as i keep moving the temp keeps at normal. i will check the relay and fans to see if one of the two is stuck some how .
anyway, I'll appreciate you guys for the input !!!! i will research it too.
04 green thanks I will look for that threat....

Coolant is good idea. This could be the one case where the stupid float fails and the light does NOT come on. Another option is to get some pipe insulation, about 6 feet, for 1/2 inch or so pipe, and put it around the edge of the radiator to keep hot engine compartment air from getting back around the radiator. This was part of a shotgun approach I took and I really think it was a big contributor. You have to pull the air box, but there are procedures to do that here. Then you get get almost all of it. I also did the holes I could reach where the oil lines go through. I got that idea from this forum as well. Fans were on, but AC quit. Fans blow hot air into engine compartment, it leaks out where it can, some around radiator to go back thru, but cannot cool because it is already hot. AC condenser is out there and it quits working pretty fast with really hot air.

Fans running after you shut off the car is normal and the temp gauge is a dummy temp gauge with only 3 positions, Off, normal, cool me down and **** I dun blowed up. The fans kick on at a set temp so I am going to assume that you just didn't reach it yet because they kick on late. However, if you know anyone in your area with an AccessPort they can confirm what your OBD-II port is saying the collant temp is and whether or not they should be on. Also we are going to need to know the following...
1) When did you last replace your coolant?
2) What did you use for coolant?
Also if you were really worried about your temp you should have kicked on the heat. If your car was actually overheating you would last maybe a couple minutes before your face or feet melted off.

I changed if am not wrong 14 months ago with 50/50, I have read that some people use 60/40 even 70/30, water/coolant, I don't want to start a threat on the same topic, but I will change the coolant tommorrow while I check the fans, so what do you recomend to put in. Thanks a million!!!

Does your car have the engine under cover present and intact? Make sure that is good. You should be able to test some systems yourself by running the engine to about 2k rpms at standstill (Hood open) and have someone observe your fans come on. There have been situations with bad fan motors and fans jammed with grommets etc. Make sure your fans are working.

05rotary - My suggestion to you is to talk to some of the Florida locals. I can tell you that a 50/50 solution is not recommended for the Florida heat. The reason for adding glycol (antifreeze) to your coolant is to make sure that in cold weather your coolant doesn't freeze and crack the block as it expands. With you not having to deal with the freezing temps that we have up here in the north, you could safely run 100% water. I would talk to a local like mysql or Mazurfer though and see what is recommended for your area.

U need EG to lube the seals.
U can use 100% distilled but make sure u add a bottle or 2 of wetting agent to it. Or else u can kiss ur seals bye bye

Well, well well, I went to check with the dealer to change the coolant, I don't have space to do it myself, the mech told me that the right fan its not working, but they have to replace the rely with the fan motor, that would run a tag of $500, hell!!!. Now I need a fan motor and see if the relay is good.. How do I check that? I love my car so I'll apreciate you guys for the help and patience with a noby! Thanks guys! You are the best..

**** outa here.
To test the fan, pull the relay out and jump the fan with jumper wire. if it works it works. and a Fan motor does NOT cost 500 bux. its probably the labor thats expensive (need to take a lot of **** out)
and to check the relay, just "look" at it, or if u're blind, use a Multimeter.
You dont need a lot of space to change ur coolant, the place where u parked ur car is more than enough, just jack it up on all 4 corners.

got back from the dealer, and i moved the two fans, they move smoothly, the right fan that the mechanic was talking about had the wire connector disconnected, why? I have no idea. i reconnected the plug and i went for a ride to miami beach. it was 92F i red lined it after warmed up a few times with AC on and with out AC. miami beach traffic stop and go and no overheating at all, the gauge didn't even moved.
I guess it is fixed....

My rule of thumb - anytime fan runs on high speed for a long period after I switch the car off, I check that both fans are indeed working. had a short in the harness one time which led to the left fan only working, temp guage never showed car running hot but fan ( left fan only) ran for several minutes after shut off. Once I fixed the short and both fans were operating normally, problem went away.

Remove airbox tray and battery tray and fan connectors will be visible.
Also if you leave your airbox tray out and slightly lift the airbox itself with the engine running, you can see if BOTH fans are working when they should. By listening alone you can't tell if its 2 or one that is on.
