aux on a 2005 (shinka edition) 6disk & sirius radio?

I have a 2005 shinka edition, and it has the 6disk changer in it, and sirius radio. I'm not subscribed to Sirius, but i've been thinking of subscribing...... anyway, I would really like some kind of Aux port, or anything to use my ipod in my car.

I have read alot of posts but alot of them say what they use doesnt work with the 6disk changer, or it unplugs the SAT radio.... I was hoping that someone would have some ideas of which ones WILL work for my car? thanks

Check out this site: http://www.sylfex.com/products/AuxMod/It may have what you're looking for, as it plugs into the port for the cd deck. It allows for 3.5mm jack, so you wouldn't get any kind of remote control, but you would get music.

Hope this helps.

that looks promising, it plugs into the tape/md on the unit header, and i don't particularly need to use my steeringwheel controls, i can just use the ipod itself. but how big is that actually? and any idea where a good place to mount it would be?

thanks.

The AuxPort lets you input any audio signal. As far as volume/mute goes, the steering wheel controls still work, you just will have no control over whatever it is that you're inputting other than through that device. For an IPod, you connect your "earbud" port to the cable you gotta run out from the Auxport input - the volume you get through the Bose is quite reasonable as long as the volume level on the IPod is turned up fairly high.

The Auxport itself is a circuit board that plugs into the bottom of the head unit - see the first pic, where the HU is upside-down and the face is towards the left. In that pic, I had the cable running out the back. After thinking about it for a while, I decided to mount a plug on the otherwise unused lower face plate trim piece, showed in the other pictures. That way, there are no hanging cables in the cockpit, and an IPod can then be easily plugged in with a male-to-male cable of a convenient length you can hide in the glovebox when not in use.

However, the underside of the HU is forms a little empty box. So instead of plugging in the cable for Ipod use in directly to the auxport, I got a little Y-cable (like you'd get to plug 2 sets of earbuds into 1 ipod). One of the Y ends goes to the faceplate, and the other I have running out the back of the HU, then with an extension cable, running that input back through the center console to my rear-mounted DVD player. (Presumably, I'll remember not to run an Ipod and the DVD player at the same time.)

Works well, let's you keep the Sirius and makes a neat install.

PS: Make sure you disconnect the negative lead on the battery before messing with the HU! Ignition = off, apparently isn't good enough to avoid possibly frying it.

Also, small correction, it plugs into the port for the mini-disk/tape player. The circuitry fakes out the head unit into thinking it's seeing one of those units.

very nice, and very descriptive, and thats exactly what i planned on doing, putting it in the faceplate, haha...so thats pretty cool. and i understand that the circuit board plugs into the head unit, i was just wondering where you mounted the circuit board itself at?

Okay, thanks.

wow haha i totally missed it in that pic. its sad cuz i know what they are ( i work with computers) anyway, my blonde moment aside......im pretty much just trying to decide between that sylvex one that you showed me, and this GROM http://cgi.ebay.com/Mazda-CX-7-Miata...item588a89d7f9 i havent checked firmware in my car yet, but do you know anything about the grom? i had thought it plugged into the SAT port, from other comments, but when reading on there it says it plugs into the external cd changer port, and so even though i have the stock 6disk changer, it should still work, because thats a internal changer, not a external.

Yes. 22 gauge wire, some shrink wrap, and the male/female ends from Radio Shack. The 22 ga is a little thick for the holes you need to solder the wire into; it works ok though if you take an ice pick stick them in the slots and round the holes a bit. Or, use even smaller gauge wire. The wire is long enough to let me pop the faceplate off from the front and extend it far enough to unplug it from the Auxport (in case I want to add another Y connector or something) without pulling the head unit.

I have the GROM. I haven't had the chance to use it much, but so far I like it. Having both iPod controls and the AUX-in is worth it.

Did instructions come with the AuxMod for installing it. i.e. does the radio need to be disassembled in any way to plug in the pcb?
Thx

No instructions, none needed. It goes into the bottom of the radio HU one way without disassembly. 2 pieces of tape included. Pretty obvious once you get the HU out.

I got the auxmod and ran a cable to the armrest pocket, and connected it to one of those iPod chargers that has AUX out. One visible wire and it all hides away in that pocket pretty easily. For anything other than the ipod I have a headphone jack coupler and a male-male headphone cable.
