Newbie section?

Newbie section?
I was wondering if we could have a newbie section for new members (redundant). There are all sorts of new people, and that's great, but I would find it hard to make conversation, especially in the tech sections, when you have zero posts, and no credibility. Just a thought. I want to make newbies feel comfortable, because you can easily get flamed, even here.

I think it is a good idea. It wouuld be beneficial for everyone...new and old members. There are SO many other forums that do this, and some actually REQUIRE that a new member spend time in the newbie section before they can view anywhere else. That way, they get all the popular questions out of the way.
This has been discussed before, and I think the mods here feel that it singles out new people unnecessarily. I for one agree with you that something is needed to keep down the redundant posts of topics that have been discussed a thousand times, that only end in flame wars or threads being closed.

I have nothing against newbies. Hell, I was a newbie in, um, March, and now I have what 2,000 posts?
Introducing yourself, especially in forums where you can get easily flamed for saying something stupid, or reposting, is quite difficult. I think us old members should also exercise some restraint. I'll still keep putting up my seaport pictures, however.

I must have some sort of newbie disease which prevents my having owned rotarys exclusively since 1984 and been a poster here, since Sep03, from making any difference in how my posts are perceived. I'm sure you would be happy to comment... https://www.rx8club.com/showpost.php...2&postcount=14

Well, your credibility shouldn't be measured by how many posts you have. I believe the key is self-restraint. If you know something is out your league, then it is probably not a good idea to post at all. I don't doubt anyone's credibility here, except for the occasional troll (excluding Ike. He's out resident General Automotive guru). I don't quite understand why robertdot made that post. I'm sure there was a bit of sarcasm in there. We're all friends here, whether one has 1 post, or 8,000,000. I consider myself as trying to help people, through the power of mathematics. Whether someone finds me as a credible source is up to the reader. If they find some fault, by all means refute.

I like the idea of a newbie section. Autopia does it, and it's a great place for people to say hello, I'm new here. It's mostly the moderators who only ever go in there to interact with newbies, but some recognition is better than none at all (as it was here for me). I tried to introduce myself in the several threads I first jumped on here but never got any welcomes. That would have been nice :o
No major complaints from me, though. I've learned a lot from this forum.

I suppose our newbie forum is our RX-8 Discussion. There are lots of new people there who introduce themselves, and their cars of course. It would be nice if I could meet each and every one of you guys. Someday.

I'd much rather interact with a newbie asking a legit question, even if it has been asked before, than some of the haters who slither in here from time-to-time.

I would rather have a new member/car section. Where people post the often see "just picked up my 8" or "new to the forum" post. Everyone of these is the same. If we had a new car section then people could post how happy the are with their new car along with a few pictures.
New members with good questions usually have the best posts in the General Section. They bring up things that the long time owners never think of or have had the car too long to notice.

I'll never understand why people think it's a BAD idea to have a new member section. It's good for everyone...
But I guess we'll just have to suffer through endless new threads on the M Flash, gas mileage, the Mazda buyback offer, the HP dyno results, the list could go on and on and on......

Sorry to dredge up an old post, but wouldn't this be nice? Get the gas milage, oil usages, synth or dino, etc questions stickied in one forum? It would give people a place to point newbies too without opening up with the full flame fest.

Completely agree. I joined here in December and since then I have grown sick of the same gas mileage, flooding, and new member threads. They get old and with a new people section you could avoid all that and be able to talk about other things that would be more interesting to talk about rather than, "Welcome!" or "Search!" or "What kind of gas is the best?"

And more than anything else it would make this site a LOT friendlier. Right now your odds of getting horribly flamed as a new poster are at about 75%. Either they didn't search, or they didn't know the exact terms to search or etc. and they ask questions that have already been answered somewhere.
On top of that I wouldn't mind seeing all of these useful threads stickied in one area.

Hell, I'm totally aware that I'm a nOOb but instead of stickying everything make one of those, must read before posting posts that has a link to the post with the most commonly asked questions
Want to know about gas mileage
www.rx8.club/showthread.php?click-here-******
Wow, that's amazing you just bought a new Rx8 - tell the world here
http://www.rx8.club/showthread.php?s...are-...-really
That would save the time of making a new section for newbies like myself. Hell, just the faqs and DIY's and being yelled at once helped me tremendously.

Coming from a noob that doesn't even have 8 yet, I think lumping us all in 1 category is BS, I have only been registered a short time, but guarantee that since I have became interested in purchansing an 8, I have probably read as many posts as 95% of older members. I personally am not interested in gas mileage & oil type, I can figure that out on my own, but I am extremely intersted in the trial & errors that you all have had in the performance & audio upgrades. If you have read any other "interests" forums, you will notice that the RX-8 Club had the friendliest & most knowledgable members around, why not keep it that way. I just don't want to be punished because I don't post often. Peace!!

Well, you can tell someone to use a search button, but try searching for "gas milage" or "sythetic oil".
You get a ton of worthless hits, and one or two good ones thrown in there somewhere.
Maybe not a "newbie" section so to speak rather than a "best of the best" section. Where the threads that actually factually addressed the most commonly asked questions can be permanently stickied, with all the crap/stupid posts cleaned out. Threads that would make good, solid reading. Then put them all in one easy to find place.
