I will check with Mazda on these. The thing is it is a chip key. It talks to the car so it will crank. If the key will work the car it will have to be programed to start the car.
A Mazda dealer will need to do this. Most dealers charge 1 hour labor. I know my dealership it at $73.00 a hour.

You can program your key yourself. It should take you about 5 seconds to do.

I'm also very interested in these. And as Jason stated there is a procedure for programming the key yourself, works really well.

Jason- any idea if programming the fob portion of the key is just as easy? I've seen the directions for the key itself, but not the remotes...

I'm also extremely interested in obtaining one of these. Are you taking any pre-orders for the ones you currently have on order? (Assuming they end up working on the 2004 8)

Like I was saying. Mazda has not a one in the USA. I have on order and I want the make really really sure that it will work on a 04. I don't want someone to tell me it will and I cut a few a it will not work. As soon as I get them in I will test it out on a car and release my findings out. Mazda just loaded the number in the system this week. I am hoping it will work. I know you all would like them.

How?? Could you tell us please. I've seen the how-2 on the alarm reprogramming portion, but not the key transponder (as the engine immobiliser looks at the key to make sure it is the correct one). If this part isn't done then the car wont turn over.

Thanks.

No offense, but I was looking for something you didn't need all the keys for, and that the person has tried himself. Not something that has just been witnessed.
That must be possible? What happens if somebody had lost a key??

What? I don't understand. This is from the Mazda RX-8 workbook. And he coded my rotary key in front of me, following the instructions of his workbook. What is wrong with that!?

I've been doing some more searching, and it looks like if you've lost a key (and you only have 1) your f**ked. No possible D.I.Y. Dealer reprogramming only...

At the moment I have 3 ^^" I better get that one and made a 4th one, shouldn't I?

For people in Australia, there is a machine that reprogramme but there is only one that Mazda Australia have (in Glen Waverley Melbourne)
