What was needed to make it work? In another thread you said it came in two parts and you didn't have part of the key yet. Do you have the complete '05 key working now?

Can I ask what a retractable key is? I just had an extra key made so I have three keys for the RX. What's the purpose for a retractable key for 05?

Thanks. But what procedure is needed to make it work? There was another thread stating that a dealer (think it was Trussville) tried to program it and got failure codes.

this is the only picture I could find of it. the one on the left is the key not retracted the one on the right is the key retracted. kind of like a switch blade. it makes the remote and key 1 piece and stops the key from stabbing you when you have it in your pocket. Plus it is fun to show off with.

Yeah I saw the Trussville thread. The tech just erased all the memory from all my keys using the WDS then reprogrammed the keys using the WDS.

ibfubar2000 the pics did not show on the reply. I think I get it what it is and it sounds good and an excellent idea. I paid $27 to have an extra key made so I would guess the retractable would be near $50 for the set.

ok here is the price:

this is for RX-8 club memebrs only! you have to buy both pieces together. only 1 order per person at this price, you can buy as many as you like but you can not buy 1 now then 5 months from now buy another one at this price. price does not include labor or shipping. you can only get this price if you contact me at Browning Mazda or PM.

both pieces as a set: $150.00
labor at Browning Mazda: $35.00(for rx8 club members only that have it programmed at Browning, prices will vary at other dealers)
shipping: PM me for details. (probably about $5.00 for shipping within 50 states)

I am making no money on this myself. but I will personally mail out these to people who prepay through me. any questiond please PM me.

do you only need the key code that came with the original key to have them programmed? Is there a refund ploicy in place should we get the key via mail and it doesn't work? I'm very interested in this.

I'm sorry, but I don't really understand what the 2 pieces are, I thought the whole idea was to have the key and remote combined as one. The picture you showed I assumed was two keys (front & back/open & closed). https://www.rx8club.com/attachment.p...chmentid=27730

Just what exactly does each piece consist of?

the key comes in 2 pieces. the key is one piece and the remote is another piece, they click together. but you have to order/buy them seperate. I think mazda did this so people can replace the key only or remote only without having to buy the whole set.

the picture is of two different but complete sets. if you look colosely you can see a line under the mazda emblem that is where they seperate.

the key code is for cutting the key. the key comes uncut. you will have to have your local dealer program it i think, our tech had to use the WDS to erase the current key prgrams and reprogram. they key has normal 12/12 warranty if something is wrong, you will recieve the original purchase reciept so you can take it to any dealer to get cut and to program it. I dont think it can be programmed without the WDS.

I think the two part fob allows Mz to use different style heads with bodies.

The Miata and MPV have the retractable key now..although they remain a "immobilizer" curcuit.

ok first...CLEAR THIS WITH A MODERATOR

second...there is no need for them to cut the key...you can do it at home depot, menards, hell even Walmart

ok just to clarify everything. this is not a group buy. anybody can buy 1 or more keys.
keys are $150.00 includes 1 uncut key with remote. two seperate packages they snap together to make 1 retractable key with built-in keyless entry rmote.
If you are local to Cerritos, Ca. then we will cut and program your key and remote for $35.00 if you are NOT local to Cerritos, Ca. then you will have to call your local dealer to see how much they will charge you to cut and program the key and remote.
I will make shipping within the USA $5.00 if out of USA then PM me for shipping prices.
Im not sure if the key will work with cars out of USA im guessing it will but I am not going to promise it.
keys have to be prepaid and ordered approx. wait time is 2-3 weeks after payment is recieved you will get the keys.
I hope this clarifies any confusion.

1.) if any moderator wants to delete this thread please go ahead and I apologize if it is out of context.

2) anybody can cut the keys, I just always recomend a certified Mazda Dealer.
but yes they can be cut at home depot or walmart or any key cutting place. but they have to be programmed at a dealer. I dont think anybody owns a WDS. but who knows? I do not recomend trying it yourself.
