[VIC] Great Ocean Road Cruise. SUN 27 Aug 2006.

DATE CHANGED - NOW is SUNDAY 27th AUG
change of plan too

CHANGE OF PLANS

Sorry to disappoint anyone, but since so many people cannot make it, perhaps best to postpone this cruise. Personally I'd love a lot of the regulars to attend, and if they cannot make it, I dont see much fun in it, as these people are regulars and friends of ours and Id think it be more fun if we did this altogether.

So alot of us still want to catch up......

We will meet up as planned at Shell Station going outbound towards Westgate, and go somewhere local. By local could be beach and we have some Brunch and definately cruise somewhere for some great photos. We havent taken any group rx8 photos, which would be heaps fun

So new details

TIME: 8.30AM

MEET: SHELL STATION OUTBOUND TO WESTGATE BRIDGE

WHAT TO BRING: CAMERA AND CLEAN CAR

WHERE TO: TBA probably beach area, photoshoot & brunch

Please post if you are okay with this idea, and on Sunday arrive with some funky thoughts

Ta, Kall

New Plan Attendees:

1. Kall/MissyK
2. Eric/Ezzy
3. Stephen/taka
4. Andrew/auzoom
5. Joel/astro
6. Will/yellowrx8inoz
7. Minh/Zen
8. Craig/RXVIII
9.
10.

I am insulted you just did not put my name on the list. No need to ask... I am there

Funny you mention the oz mazda boys as I was on my way up to Winton yesterday in the morning when I recieved a phone call from them asking where I was as I was late for the cruise! Do not even remember saying I would go. I spent the weekend up there pit crewing at the historic race meet. If you love cars you should go to one of these... Brilliant.

I had better shut up now or I might incur Taka's rath for going off topic

Would you believe I just did all this Sat and Sunday? It's an awesome drive, on the way down the road starts to get interesting south of Lorne, and is a great drive all the way to the 12 Apostles. We went back via Lavers Hill, Gellibrand and Colac which is another 100km of great driving, so all in all, two days of smile inducing driving.

The only problem I had was the slow traffic on Saturday. There seems to be a lot of tourists down that way ATM and the road doesn't have any overtaking areas, just slow traffic turnouts. Unfortunately the slow drivers never do pull over for you... Sunday was different, had no probs with traffic, just my GF complaining in the left hand seat slowing me down

For planning purposes,

1. the road is 99% excellent quality, just a few rough patches to watch out for. It was wet on the weekend, and I didn't find it too slippery or anything.

2. The Ottway forest fly walk is excellent, ... $17 a go and there is a really nice Cafe there too.

3. Apollo Bay is a great place to overnight, plenty of accomodation about.

4. There is plenty of fuel stations down to Apollo Bay, then it reduces to small mangey corner store pumps at most of the small towns. I filled up at the planned meeting point (Shell) and still had 15L left on filling up at Colac on the way home (Shell again). (The new Shell long range Unleaded/Unleaded 95 is really very good, making a big diff to fuel efficiency! 10L/100km despite thrashing the car though the hills all weekend!! but more on that in a different thread when I've finished testing it out)

5. Take warm clothes, and an umbrella... it rains alot down there! hehe

Cheers,

Jared.

Thanks Jerad.

Point taken and agree all of the above. It is wiser to go 2 days if visiting 12 rocks.

That is why I told astro and Kalli that we should start earlier. 8 am we can get to Geeeelong by 9 and start GOR and to the Pollies Bay by 1030. There are traffic to the Pollies and after that to Lavers should be fun.

As long as we are early = all is good.

PS the return trip is the key.

Buy a gun CB now

Although I no longer own an RX-8 unless something important comes up I'll be there in my little 1993 MX-5. Roof down if there is no rain.

I am in

We need to be very aware that there is a large contingent of mobile cameras patrolling this area now as my work collegue can attest to with 4 tickets in 2 trip.

Who said we will be speeding
EDIT: Here is some other people's experience just very recently
http://www.ozmazdaclub.com/forums/sh...=11031&page=34

We only do the speed limit (around the bends )

You have a radar detector right?.
