Phew!

So E**** C**** P**** = Ensign Charles Parker (one of Tim Conway's roles)

I must admit I had no idea who it was, but noticed that the photo was named ECP. I thought that it might flush out a clue if I looked like I knew who it was..... :p

Burning rubber smell:

So far the only burning rubber smell comes from my shoes as I sprint down to the carport in the morning ..... however I'll keep a nostril out for any odd odours....

Not just some red car problem is it.... the yellow ones smell like roses...

(in a state of high dudgeon)

OK, then -- well clearly I am the only person on this forum who really WORKS his car HARD enough to get the burning rubber smell!

(takes bat and ball, and goes home)

At least I use my actual picure as my avatar.

Getting back to important stuff, yes, I have noticed that burning clutch smell when backing out, but not recently. Perhaps some residual gunge burning off?

That's your problem right there - overheated dudgeons....

The dudgeon pins on some models have rubber bushes which can have an adverse reaction when raised too high...

I recommend a large bottle of Dr BVD's Dudgeon Lowering Fluid - an all natural blend of soothing intoxicants, hallucigens and laxatives.....

Actually, I have noticed a few mild smells, but mostly just the sort of vague general things you'd expect with the first few weeks of a new car. Nothing I'd specifically call burning rubber - more like a few moderate odours out the back from the 'cat' in the exhaust, general new stuff getting hot for the first few times, etc..

Rubber smell

One of my nagging worries has finally been reported by someone else

I've had the really strong burning smell 2 times in 4500 km.

The first time my pax suggested I'd spun a wheel and whilst I accepted it at the time, I would have thought the anti traction gizmo would have prevented it.

The second time was reversing on flat ground into a driveway

I'm planning on reporting it at the 10K service.

Would love to hear some suggestions folks

Hmm -- interesting variation there, L&L

My labour costs alone were $123; the oil (and remember, I got an extra litre ) was $73; filter $7.30 and the sump plug gasket $0.35 )

We all know Qld is Godzone, but a variation of that ammount is ridiculous, and can't be justified unless the service you had was totally different from mine :?

Hmm, same as mine except I also had a wheel rotate & balance. And investigation of "the burning rubber smell".

Aha -- I had a loan car for the day, also (Mazda2, how foolproof is that car?) but it doesn't (shouldn't!) account for that big a difference.

I don't know what the RRP of Penrite or the Mobil1 oil used by my dealer, but the Penrite is clearly a lot cheaper from your dealer.

L&L, maybe it's the Seniors Card discount you get up there?:D
