16B Rotary?????

In April 2004 Motor pg 12 is the following:

"Whispers and rumours around Mazda tell us a larger version of the twin-rotor Renesis is in development.

Previous evolutions - 10A, 12A to 13B - have all increaed rotor housing width by 10mm, but this time it's thought Mazda might be increasing the height of the housings as well.

Effectively a bored and stroked rotary, capacity of the new Rensisis would increase to around 1.6 litres and therefore earn a 16B label.

Use may be for the next evolution of the RX-8 or the rebirth of the RX-7."

cheers

An extra 10mm on the 13B size will give you just under 1500cc. Making it a 15B, not a 16B...

Rightfully, it should be a 15C as this is a new generation of engine.

DMHR

Mazda apparently will not only increase the width of the rotary housing by 10mm , but also increase its HEIGHT hence the extra 100cc making it 16OOCC or 1.6.

You sure about that.........??

First I have heard of that one. The extra 10mm rumour has been floating for a while but not the extra stroke rumour.

Mazda actually did a longer stroke rotary engine with the 13A engine from 69-72. Dropped that idea quoting (at the time) that extra width was better than extra stroke.

After that, they developed the 12A by adding 10mm & the 13B with another 10mm then by going out to 90mm, they had the 15A engine in pre-production form ready for the 74 model cars. Unfortunately the OPEC oil crisis killed that engine off.

Sad hey!!

There is a new unit of volumetric measure - an OOCC

Does that mean my car only has 13 ooccs

Was there a 21A mentioned in the RX-8 book? I haven't got mine, lent it to another rotar-head.

Cheers,
Hymee.

The 21A was from the still-born group B rally motor.
The 16B comes from adding 20mm to a 13B.

I thought the whole thing was largely bullshit until I saw the photo of the 16B 'housing' it's a pretty funny looking housing but the photo doesnt look fake at all.

Hehehe. I'm still waiting for them to re-release the P76 with a 5.7L LS1 style enlargement of the 4.4L engine.

Cheers,
Grandpa.
