170kw Rx8

I know that due to emissions they had to start making the rx8 170 kw(in Australia). I assume that they just reprogramed the computers on them, but does mazda re-flash all our cars that when we go in for a service or leave them at 177kw's??

Maybe it's the same power as before, just revised power claim?

Going back a few years, Mazda had to revise the claimed power figures for both MX5 and RX8 in US as they found them to be overated. Just from memory, I tought the claimed power in the States for the rx8 is more like 167kW.

The reflash of the car does not normally change the main fuel map of the car, so I will suspect that it will remain the same power. Dunno if 177kW and 170kw is the same. We do not have a new car to confirm that the flash version is totally different.

Revised power claim could be possible

problem with dyno-ing it is that you won't know if you have that extra 7kw or not, because all car produces different power, even stock
Some says it depends on how you run in the engine, the more you baby it, the less power you get

On top of that, all dynos produce different results and all have tiny mitigating factors.

but they are usually within 4kw of each other

You left out the fact that all dynos are different as well.

I did a few dynos on my other car with the same setup and they were all different between about 10kw.

They're a waste of time anyway ... who cares about how much power your car has, it's all to do with the mushy organic stuff sitting in the drivers seat anyway!

Am I right or am I right?

true, every dyno is different, but I was just merely stating (implicitly) that if the car is put on the same dyno, the car that was claimed having 170kws with the car claimed having 177kws will not yield conclusive result as to which one is 177kws and which one is 170kws.

having said that, if the weather changed much (temp, humidity, etc), then even on the same dyno won't yield same result

The high flow cat would, but who cares?

Yeah, I know ... his car will obviously be over the stock emissions anyway!

No I don't care about the emissions,I just want to see if my 177kw car hasnt been changed back to 170kw for the emissions like the new ones are..

I'd say there's more like 50kW range between dynos. It's more like (up to) 20kW difference most of the time, but have seen instances where the same car produced 50kW different readings on different dynos.

Though, same day / place / operator dynos shuld read within 10kW from one run to another.

I remember reading somewhere or hearing something that said the 170kw drop is to do with a change in Cat'. Also, I am not sure about NZ or the rest of Australia but in Victoria a car is always assessed on the laws at the time the car was first registered. So emissions law changes now, dont affect my car registered nearly 3 years ago.

The cat is different is the one in Japan. I think it is the same cat in Australia from 2003 onwards.

I am more into the reclaim power figure from the fuel we used. You see you totally agree there is heaps more power when we use V Power Racing
