I don't know if anyone cares, but congratulation to all Australians on qualifying to 2006 World cup in "wogball"...... i mean 2006 Soccer World Cup in Germany

It must be a nice thing to qualify after 32 years.

Whis you best luck at the World Cup

Do they actually call it the Soccer World Cup?

Like I know all the "proper" soccer nations call it football.

This guy at work was watching the qualifier, and when Viduka missed the penalty shot he was so annoyed he threw his TV remote at the wall. It broke the remote, and turned the TV off in the process. He didn't get the TV back on again until Aloisi was running round with his shirt off! ROFL!

Cheers,
Hymee.

Having watched both the mungos and the rah rahs get smacked on the weekend, all I can say is: Go the divers!!

(AFL doesn't count 'cause nobody else plays).

BTW, given they wear shin pads, why do soccer players always clutch their shins after executing the triple spin with half twist to the ground?

... after the other players shoelace engaged their shin, with such a huge force it trips them up.

<me duck 2>

Really - the other night some player was lying on the ground in agony - the camera zoomed in, and we caught him sneeking a peek to see if the ref was looking at him and taking any action. Then he got up and carried on. FFS.

heh heh - dare I say that it is the latin/gallic influence on football - they fight wars the same way - at the first sign of resistance, roll over and play dead.

<ducks even lower>

After playing for several years myself, I can vouch that despite shin pads, some parts of the lower leg are not well protected at all. The most painful spot is the ankle, which apart from strappng, has little protection at all. Despite shin pads, you can also have certain spots that are bruised and constant hitting in the same spot will hurt.

You will find that most of the acadamy award winning displays come from south american and italian players. The rules were also changed a few years ago so that a player who took a deliberate dive in an attempt to win a free kick could be cautioned (yellow carded) by the referee. There seems to be less in todays game that previously.

As far as the word cup is concerned, I hope next years Nats don't clash, as we are planning to go.

Sheesh Greg, you ruin a perfect setup for a flame war with diplomatic logic.

And you're dead right about lower leg injuries - plenty of tibia, fibula and ankle breaks in the world game.

As for less diving - you're probably right. I just find it funny that the worst offenders also follow a strong culture of male machismo. A lack of internal logic there.

What can I say but sorry for messing up your flame war.

I myself can't understand the logic of rolling around in pretend pain. I was always(?) up straignt away to see who chopped me so that I could retaliate. Needless to say, I managed a few red cards in my time.

Hey, I was only kidding. Don't sweat it.

Let's all agree on one thing - wouldn't it be nice if the Socceroos did more than just make up the numbers in Germany next year.

The biggest, most competitive world cup but not the only one.

Adherents of other sports are entitled to have their own world cup/title/series, call it what you will.

I have read enough of your posts to know when you are kidding and when you are being serious. I also have quite a few friends in the "legal fraternity" so I am used to the type of sarcastic comments you legal eagles come up with.

You should also know I am quite relaxed (most of the time) and don't mind the odd verbal jibe now and then.

Thanks for clearing that up Greg - you're just sounding so serious today and there's a distinct absence of smilie activity...

Valid point Revolver.

Looking at my past posts I see that I don't use enough of these . So why don't we all have a , call for and hopefully make a new beginning. (Hey, I didn't realise these icons were so much fun).

Don't forget that I am an accountant, and you know what they say about us.

Yeah, I can only imagine what it's like to have your profession denigrated by all and sundry. Must be tough.
