The 2007 RX8 Nationals - Winton, Oct 6 2007 (Discussion thread)

As no-one has put their hand up to run this in NSW[and it's almost certainly too late to book anything]it looks like a non-event up here.
How about the OzRenesis guys and gals take it on in Victoria. The obvious time is their October event at Winton. How about it Taka,Andrew et all.
Rod and I will be more than happy to make the drive South, and help in any way that you want,if required.
It will be a shame if it dies a natural death after only two years. The hardest was the first one.Now that we know whats involved,an OzRenesis run day at Winton would be awesome.
Cheers
Len

Thanks

Andrew will have the most details. But as my understanding with a massive certainty that the Winton Racetrack (just less than 10km north of Benalla) is booked for
Saturday Oct 6 2007.
I think Andrew have already asked me to sign the Winton booking form.

So mark that date down now! (my best friend marked his wedding date on the same - bad luck Francis )

Full details will come in due course.

Certainly an exciting time that the Nats comes to Victoria. It is still 7 months away but we cannot wait. And we already expected all the RX-8s to come and join us!

RX-8s from all the states and NT ~ start planning a trip to Winny.

Guys. I discussed this with Adrian a month or so ago. I don't want to step on anyone's toes so I will leave it open for everyone else to decide.

The OzRenesis event will be happening regardless and will be open to all RX-8 owners (and those non-rx-8 owners closely affiliated) that want to come. We are planning on it being a big event with involvement from a lot of dealers, Mazda and a number of vendors.

Cheers

Andrew

The reality is that with nothing else being booked/organised up here[or anywhere else I imagine]your event is the one to be the Nats.Even if someone wanted to do something elsewhere the time frame wouldn't allow it.Plus not too many people could attend two interstate events around the same time.
Rod and I have both run at Winton, and are more than happy to continue as Instructors or whatever[we work for food] to help.
Running your event as the Nats would be the best thing that could happen.
You have my vote.Just Do It!
Cheers

I agree with Len. For whatever reason, the centre of organisational gravity has shifted southwards, so unless someone else is prepared to sort it out, I think the OzRenesis event should become the RX8 Nationals for this year at least.

I appreciate this makes it even harder for our Qld contingent to attend but I guess that's what happens when people let this kinda thing slide for a while (not pointing fingers here - them's just the facts).

It will be good to see something up and going rather than nothing at all.

I dont mind the trip to Melbourne. I used to live there so it would be a great opportunity to catch up with some (recent)old friends.

So, I will support this event as the Nats.

Have the date in my calendar!!

I will be up for a cruise to Vic for the Nats...makes it easy peasy for us. We will put Max on the train I think and then drive out to Winton.

Any help you need let me know and I will gladly assist. The more helpers the easier it is I guess.

Now I got something to look forward to. It's only 8 months away!! Time is flitting past!!!

Can't wait to burn some rubber!! Oh yes...the WD AKA Bruce is also a handy steerer, and qualified as an instructor over here so should you need another bod to help there I am sure he will gladly assist.

I would put my hand up but I don't want to give my tips and tricks away!! Looking forward to driving with Taka!! Or rather chasing him!!!

I guess the ball is rolling!!!

Glenn raced at bathurst last year from memory. A hill climb event?

I will do a tentative on the accommodation tomorrow and start drawing up costs. Track is already booked. Must see if I can get some value out of marrying a chef

Cheers

There is a shedload of accomodation in Wangaratta[as you no doubt know]
Unless you can find one place where we can all stay[unlikely] maybe offer a few suggestions, and let people make their own arrangements. You'll save yourself a hell of a lot of work and avoid the "why is his motel is better than my motel"syndrome.Just a suggestion to try and make it a bit easier for you.
I know only too well the amount of work involved in this.Good luck.
Cheers
Len

The other good thing about this event is that it is at the tail end of the school holidays in Qld. So, it makes it easier for us Queenslanders to make the trip down.

I would get there the week before to catch up with old mates then head off to the tracks.

The family will probably fly down and meet up when I get there.

**** is too far away IMO. It is about 50km from Benalla and 40 from Winton. I have heard a doctor reach the **** hospital from Benalla within 15 mins to attend an AMI, but that is another story.

I worked in **** as an intern before, and my impression is that **** is smaller than Benalla.

You are most welcome Tim.

Accom:

There are some examples here from Benalla. We will certainly contact some owners to get cheaper rates and pencil some bookings.

Last time I stayed at the Top of the Town motel, since the owner owns an FC!

Morning Taka
Wangaratta is about 30k from Winton-easy 20 minutes.I've stayed there heaps of times for Race meetings.Benalla is certainly closer, about 10k/10minutes.The main reason we stayed at **** is heaps of motels and close to the Milawa Wine region[and cheese shop!]about 10-12 minutes away.
Cheers

I cannot argue with the wine bit Len.

There is an exceptional restaurant near there too.... the banks ???? hmm that is in Beachworth.

King River???

Brown Brothers??

I cannot remember.
