Good work Trevor.
I am going to steal the famous word from Timbo. "Costing"... Timbo remind us a lot of times in the last few years about cost.
Timbo magic figure is $500 including meals and entertainment. That figure stuck in my mind so much....

Len (and everyone)...things are currently on hold. George Foessel who can work some some serious sponsorship for us (including Mazda) is on holidays until until 22/1/08. He has some ideas and we'll get together with him to discuss those ideas when he gets back on deck.
Things will be a lot clearer then. In the interim heres his website...http://www.motorschool.com.au/

I dont mean to be a pain in the butt, but is there any movement at the station? I just know how much work Andrew went through last year to have everything ready in time. If we can do anything to help just lets us know.

My turn to stir the pot, is this a dead issue or what? If the QLD option is not going to fly let us know now so we can make alternative arrangements. No cute smilies, just want to know what is going on.
Cheers

Well everyone heres the latest. I have a lot of thanks to the boys so far going out of their way towards pre-planning advice and cruising to Maccas in Kallangur to discuss (Hymee, Jambos, Ltd, Mdr, Sco, Xxup, Taka, Auzoom, Timbo, Skc and Revolver).
So far, we've had verbal support from Grand Prix Mazda and George Foessel who runs a motor school in Brisbane and can provide people, training, timing and sponsorship. http://www.motorschool.com.au/
Whilst we have got provisional sponsorship there has been no firm financial commitment.
We negotiated for a couple of months with Warwick Park but to be totally honest the reception we have received so far from has been far from accomodating. We have a tentative booking at Queensland Raceway on 4/10/08 but there we are still looking at big $$$ and need to secure a lot more sponsorship.
I apologise profusely as I made a commitment last year, I've gone this far with the ground work but my circumstances have changed significantly. The prognosis for the next six months is not good at home and work. Therefore the opportunity for me to move forward and commit the time that is needed to organise these Nats is extremely limited.
Its better I put this forward sooner than later and my deepest apologies go to everyone, but it is a physical impossiblity for me to organise it.
There's still time, and whilst I can still assist in a limited capacity, we really need someone who knows they can make a commitment in the next 6 months to progress it.....

Appreciate your efforts to date Trevor and sorry to hear you've had to bow out.
If any Qlders do not pick up the ball, I suggest OzRenesis looks to again convert another one of their regular track days into this year's Nats. To cut down on the work required two years running I'm sure most of us would be happy to forgo the bells and whistles and just meet up for a timed track day. We can all organise our own accommodation, etc.
Thoughts anyone?

Not having a go at you, Matt....lots of places sound good, but to make it happen, someone has to do the hard yards -- ring up the circuit(s), check availability, find out costs, licensing and insurance requirements, put together a cost model and see who's interested.

Hi Trevor,
I had a bit more of a think regarding the Nationals. I have a few ideas:
OPTION 1/ USE MT COTTON AND RUN SKID PAN SESSIONS FOR DSC AND NON DSC. We can then set up the LVMA as a Motorkhana Circuit for everyone to have a practise run and then a timed go.
OPTION 2: Holden Performance Driving Centre at Norwell. Using the circuit so that everyone gets track time, and can have a good safe run in there cars. I think a good follow up to this is to have a few options as follows:
Show and shine at the Broadwater Car Park, and a cruise along the coast over Murwullimbah Mountain Range and back in through Tweed Heads coming back down the coast.
Also Accomodation can be negotiated and I was thinking that a good place to stay is a place called AUSTRALIS SOVERIEGN, I would recommend doing this through a travel broker such as Globalnet travel.
These are just a few ideas, I spoke to Mazda they are keen to support the project.
I was also thinking that a great way to get attendance figures up is to ask Mazda to send out to all current RX8 owners advising them of the event, I think this could easily double your attendance and therefore reduce running costs.
Mazda are keen to support, I just need some formal approach from you, and I am then happy to put that forward.

lol the letter idea has been asked for the last 3 years and mazda have pissed around for so long it was never feasible. I asked for it with 3 months to go in 2006 and 6 months in 2007. Never happened.
Hopefully working via the State Managers will get more done 'cause working from where we were we ended up with....Lime Green golf shirts (well some did ).
As for the Holden "CENTRE" (not Holdens mdr) what sort of "circuit" is it? if its just a bowl then I would say forget it. You loose one of the biggest enjoyments of the 8...turning.
Cheers
Andrew

"so that everyone gets track time, and can have a good safe run in there cars"
Was not sure if that meant in our cars or the Holden centers cars.
It does look like they have a road course.
