If so, can you scan the Curtiss Wright pages on their octane testing please. They show the RC2-60 engine going from low grade to high fuel & the lack of power gain/loss achieved. Am sure the other guys would love to have a read.
I just took a digi pic & got this over exposed flash off the white paper....... "grrrr"
As for the guys that swear by the higher RON. Each to their own I say........
Freedom of choice is more important than what I am saying here......

I think it is the same book we speak of: Blue cover with the picture of Wankle and his original "true-rotary" DKM sitting on his lap.

Just to add to this, I actually filled up with 95RON from Woolworths/Caltex yesterday, so whether they get it from a different source or still had some left I don't know.
**Edit. Also, just FYI if you do use Vortex, Caltex have a competition on their website for free fuel so keep your docket and enter. You can use your docket from Caltex/Woolies servos as well as just Caltex.

I've run 91, 95, 98 and BP E10 (10% ethanol) in my RX8 and during normal driving I did not notice any difference in performance or economy.
On E10 the car is a little harder to start, and idles a little rough.
On a race track or at high revs perhaps there would be a difference, but from now on I'm running 91 to try and get my fuel bill down.

When you can feel the denotation - it is too big.
Most people cannot detect small denotation while on the lower octane fuel. It is even less when the ECU trying to adjust it. That is why there is a device with a headphone that the tuner use when they tune the ECU.
I will not take that risk. But it is your car and your warranty.

Well Shell puts 5% Ethanol into Craptimax to make Craptimax Extreme, and it is 100 RON, according to their marketing.

Well the car is manufactured as suitable for 95 RON and above. So the ECU WILL be tuned to the fuel to get NO damage (pinging) whatsoever. Depends how conservative the tuning is... you MAY not get problem with 91 RON.
You see what I mean.
In terms of "performance" between 95 and 98. It is highly debatable and highly subjective. Unless there is people who willing to do chassis dyno back to back like the 5th gear recently shown.

RON is one thing and E10 is another matter all together??????
At the back of the fuel cap - does it say Unleaded 95RON or above ONLY ???? :

Your thoughts?

So E10 = okish... (we agree)
but... Not all E10s have 91 RON and not all 91 RONs have E10. Confusing??? what I am saying is Mazda said E10 is suitable but did not imply that 91 RON is ok according to your argument.... you see??
But 91RON + E10 = not ok; Since 91 RON is not ok....
You may say that the only E10 available is 91RON in Australia. IT MAY BE TRUE. But mazda did not say that (and not implying that). Mazda just doing a general statment. I would doubt the lady in the customer relation know which petrol company has E10 and which does not.

Did some quick research E10 has 93-94 RON - I can tell you the car runs fine on E10 but it was harder to start (that was with the old starter anyway, havn't tried it for a while).

The Ethanol being added to the ULP should increase the RON of the petrol by a couple of points. Ethanol has a higher resistance to knock = Higher Knock Rating = Higher RON.
Would be nice to know.
