Advice wanted on new rx8

Hi guys,

I have finally decided to buy an rx8! (after nearly two years of waiting!!)
It has come down to a 2006 pearl white leather pack with sunroof or a 2007 winning blue cloth pack.

The problem i have is i feel a little cramped with the sunroof. I am not excessively tall (6ft). I was wondering has anyone else experienced this with the sunroof models. The dealer assures me the sunroof sits only 5 - 10 mm lower than standard which i find hard to believe!

Both cars are the similar price and i know resale on the leather pack will be slighter more.

What should i do!!!

Any advice would be appreciated.

Cheers
Col

Surprise surprise the dealer is lying to you. Headroom drops more like 38mm with the sunroof.

Internal Dimensions (mm)
Headroom (Fr/Rr) 922/927 w/moonroof
Headroom (Fr/Rr) 960/935 w/o moonroof

What should you do? Help the salesman understand your view of his dishonesty

Despite my personal RX-8 being a "Winning blue" example.

My thoughts are to go for the "Pearl white" example as it ill have better resale & is more appealing.

You should / will be able to find a seat position that will make you comfortable but if the leather pack interior appeals to you visually, you will curse yourself for not getting it as you spend more time looking at the seats than you do at the ceiling.

Either way, the RX-8 is still an awesome car, welcome to the club

Thanks for the advice. I want to do track days etc so i will be taking the white one with the sunroof for a drive tomorrow with a race helmet on just to see how much room i have etc! Will like like a twit driving around brisbane with a hemnet on!!
If i can offload my 4 kids for the weekend of the nats (my wife is away for that same weekend) i will be there drew man!
Went to the nats last year in gouldburn and had an awesome weekend.

Any babysitters available in Bris for that weekend please message me!!! (14yr old, 13 yr old and 7 yr old twins!!! )

Will pay handsomely and and have no problem with capital punishement!!

Cheers

Is it a Whitewater Pearl or a Crystal White Pearl car?

Whitewater Pearl has a paint code of 25D....Crystal White Pearl has a paint code of 34K. I've never seen the two side-by-side so I don't know the difference.

Whitewater Pearl is still on the Mazda Australia website as an available colour, even though the new 2007 RX-8's are actually Crystal White Pearl.

Don't bother asking the salesman....he won't know. It'd be interesting to line the two up together and see what the difference is.

Definitely do the helmet test.

I'm not tall (5'9") and although I like to sit upright and close to the wheel, which exacerbates the issue, I find that with a helmet on I have very little roof clearance.

I otherwise tend to agree with the comment that the sunroof wrecks the double bubble roof lines and of course it adds weight up high, lol.

I think you will also find that the resale value of leather pack items is marginal over the cloth pack. Mind you, I think the xenon headlights are worth it.

welcome to the club....

Wither way will be fine..since it is a nice car anyway...

ask yourself which colour you really want?

and also if you want leather pack and end up not getting it...you will kill yourself down the track...

And if you still can't pick out of the 2...I say you should hit the market again and keep looking.

Goodluck.

I personally miss having a sunroof, but don't like the one they designed for the RX8 ... it's too small, not even worth having!

the problem is that it is not quite a SUNROOF ... it is MOONroof.

Not the right place you can stick your head out of. The opening is at the wrong place, you will smack your helmet against the edge of it

I think all sunroofs are pointless.

Don't have much time for convertibles either...

It is so true when you have to wear a cap when you drive a convertible right Dave ?

I wonder what the response from the Police will be if I wear my helmet and overall in an S2000?

I am 195cm and hae the sunroof. I love the sunroof and wouldnt be without it. If you problem is helmet clearnace, get an aftermarket seat wit lowering rails. You can gain nearly 2" from memory.

Cheers

Hey, it's a solar panel for a love machine, lol!

No, I just think adding weight and ruining the structural integrity of a car built for handling is counter-productive. You want the breeze in your hair - let your window down! You want sun - go to the beach!

(All IMHO of course - whatever floats your particular boat).

Thanks for all the advice!
After doing the helmet test i have decided against the sunroof model.
I have purchased a new 07 plated cloth pack with rear spoiler and tinted windows. Have to let them know a colour tomorrow either a winning blue or crystal white pearl.(neither of which are in stock 6-8 weeks wait!!!)
Olmac Mazda in Springwood is where i purchased the car. They loaned me an 07 leather pack with sunroof for the day to drive around in to see if i liked the sunroof! Very impressed
Looking forward to meeting some of you if i can offload the kids for the nats weekend.
Cheers

Unless you experience a miraculous recovery, I doubt you'll be tracking your car in early October!

However, I'm sure you'd be welcome to attend for all the other stuff going on.

Good luck with the reco and the car.

I am considering delaying the reco to december so i can come the nats! I am also going to sema in Las vegas in November i dont want to be travelling with a dodgy shoulder!

Really. I guess white taxi makes it unpopular in Syd and Adel I suppose. But I like it, wishing a hot blond will wave me to a halt.
