Answer from Mazda Australia on ECU Upgrade

A strange and wonderful thing happened. I posted an answer from Mazda Australia concerning the rumoured ECU upgrade in the thread "Information on Mazda Re-flash". It seemed to be authoritative and definitive and from a person who should know. Instead of putting an end to the speculation and sometimes almost disturbing behaviour evident in some of the posts, it didn't even serve as a speed bump in the conversation flow.

Is the only acceptable answer from Mazda "yes, we agree with you, we've been screwing you over"?

For the record, here's Mazda's reply to my my request for information:

"Mazda Australia is unaware of any software upgrade for the engine management system with the RX8 to date. However, as with any product improvements or enhancements, Mazda Australia will make this advice available through our dealer network.

Labrat,

Yes, I did see your post. It is amazing how that does not seem to satisfy some.

What you have been told seems to correlate to what was found when we plugged the WDS into my car.

I would like to as them a more detailed question, such as:

"Could you please advise me of the current version numbers (calibration ids) for the RX-8s on the Australian market.

1. Cloth/Manual
2. Leather/Manual
3. Cloth/Auto
4. Leather/Auto"

Cheers,
Hymee.

I guess it serves as strong evidence that forum members take the 'official response' from MA with a grain of salt.

The roots of this thinking is probably (unfairly??) founded in the fact that authorised dealers (who represent MA to purchasers) have all to frequently been found to be less than 100% accurate (honest??) in dealing with customers.

A read through these forum pages will find a hatfull of cases where customers are fed rubbish information - an apparent case of 'we'll tell them whatever we feel like to suit the situation'

I guess this is akin to the 'boy who cried wolf'.

I think I need to go for a run .. I'm starting Sunday way too seriously!!

Talking

The inconsistent replies from MAZDA have caused this situation , i for one do not believe one word they say because most of the so called tecknical staff have been gagged from telling the truth to customers .

Bullshit answers on mileage figures , oilcoolers or lack off , correct oil and when its arriving , correct power output on car , and many other issues , type of codes used in ECU .etc etc etc

The one eyed ostriches on this forum will not agree with any of this because they only want good things said about their precious RX8,

I enjoy my car as much as anybody else here on the forum ,but i do not enjoy the Bullshit/Halve truths feed to me by MAZDA.

While it was not written, and not from MA, the response I got from my Service Manager (who said he did check with MA) is that there are upgrades, and mine is booked for Friday 26th. I shall ask to sit in, and report back.

Mind you, having worked with many large organisations over the last 20 years, I find the word "organisation" the greatest tautology. Ignorance abounds in the global corporation

Think about it. If MA doesnt release the info the dealers need to know and/or the dealers have not read their update bulletins then I see no reason why they wouldnt strongly say YES or NO to questions us consumers ask. If you dont know, you simply dont know. Imagine if you went to your dealer and asked if there is an ECU upgrade and they said, well Maybe?!

Funny isn't it. A definite answer from a Mazda Australia employee authorised to make such comments (and who puts his name to the communication) engenders such comments. And we wonder why their communications are few and far between?

From what I have read here, it confirms my suspicion that one of the posters here really should seek professional help, and soon.
