anynore news on RotorMaster's turbo??

Has anyone heard anymore news on RotorMaster's turbo kit that was reviewed in July's Motor Mag??
Just curious because one minute there was lots of talk bout it and now it seems like it's turned into vapourware.
Also has Ric Shaw managed to do anything with his ECU??

I think cost was a major factor in the lack of interest

Also reliability and consistency of results... skc.

Many development needed. As in today July 2004, major tuning is required for forced induction and the cost is not justified IMHO. Wait is the advise.

Put a Hymee exhaust and enjoy your car

I have a feeling that the "G" flash, while not 100% in terms of AFR's, probably negates the need for a fuel/ignition controller.

I might get my Ric Shaw / TSI unit re-tuned soon to suite the G flash, so time will tell.

I think the main use for such a unit will be on a forced induction setup. I'm thinking about this far too much! But I won't be going turbo :D

Cheers,
Hymee.

Well I am tempted to buy a second hand renesis for $2500, decompress the rotors, throw one of my spare turbos on it, bigger injectors, computer etc and throw it in the car :D

But I am concentrating on my other car at the moment. But I am definately tempted and I tend to impulse buy stuff

As i understand we are currently running a 10: 1 compression rotary engine how would you decompress the engine to a 8: 1 ratio to enable a reasonable turbo say 16psi to do its job .???
What would the cost be ????

cheers

You scallop out the recesses in the rotor. That is effectively the only part of the combustion chamber you can alter in a rotar.

Hymee.

In a word............... WRONG.

RotorMaster have over a dozen orders waiting for the medium production parts to become available. They will start getting these people into the shop for the turbo fitting in the next week or two from what I have heard.

Plus "cost" for these people & the dozens more that enquire doesn't appear to be the issue when you have already spent $60K++

With a dozen orders, and we (forumers) don't know of any, we must the minority group!

Cheers,
Hymee.

Note to Choppy - All Australian RX-8 buyers need to be introduced to the .au forum!

Hey Hymee,

I'm part of that minority group! The price/return is way too rich for my blood! $60k for the car............but few people pay cash for the car, most finance the vehicle, so our comment about $10k for the kit stands........thats $10k cold hard cash................

Emack,

Have they have trouble with overheating... I am thinking FI will increase the temp in the engine and upgrade of radiator and put a second oil cooler is necessary??

You better get some oil and water meters and prob get the front spoiler to increase air flow to the radiator and oil coolers.

If I do FI I would get a meter to measure the air intake temperature - just to avoid hot air going in thru the box. I will wait for stage 2 of the Rotor Master with retuned ECU, intake and exhaust.

Sound like even the small stage 1 I will not go without the meters.. at least.

I will wait - let me know what you find. I cannot wait to see the difference - should be exciting indeed.

For me -- I am saving $25000 for the real deal in the next 2 years..

Taka

P.S. Emack, I am not talking down FI from RotorMaster, in fact I am happy that someone doing it... because you think ALL THE OTHER STUFF will come with it.. I have mention those above. RX-8 will take off in popularity from now on!!
