Anyone up for a drive tonight? [Friday 14/11/2003]

I'm sitting here staring at the screen, bub is tucked up in bed, wife going to bed early.. I hate TV, have read every bloody book in the house a dozen times, don't think I could stand cutting another line of bloody code on http://WebSearch.COM.AU for another 48 hours.. so what does one do? Drive!!

and am thinking of a drive tonight..

a late evening/night drive.. don't really care where to..

Sydney siders interested in a bit of a late night fang about?

Any takers? PM "Dez" if you're up for it - any time - any where!

++dez;

ps: sorry for the late notice..

Given that its meant to be speed limited to about 240 or so I believe, I'd reckon that sniffs of the proverbial bull deposits...

Sadly I was far too focussed on the experience, the buzzer and the road to watch the digits .....but having owned several rush enducing vehicles including a renmax open wheeler , I can officially say .. this is AWESOME !!!!!

Guys, I'm in Willoughby, so the same applies. I just need a bit of notice (and a late leave pass from the boss)!

it's 11:05pm Wed 26th - I'm thinking of still going for a drive, somewhere like south head perhaps, and then hot chocholate at Harry's Cafe 'd Wheels or the finger wharfs, just inside there's a zany cafe etc.

Anyone up for it? I'm going to meet a mate Michael who's just gotten his black 8, at the finger wharfs at 11:30pm for a drive to south head and back!

SMS me at 0414 464 356 if you are or ring me if you're there or near to meet!

Late notice I know - but this is what I do at 11pm now that I have an rx8!

Clocking back in kids.. and I've got that sharing feeling.. sorry if this rambles * grin * Actually - no I'm not, thats what this thread's for..

ok - it's just going 01:27 AM on Thu Nov 27th, just back in from my evening drive.

I managed to get a joiner finally - a pal "Michael" who's just taken delivery of his black, red trim leather pack rx8, and his loverly girlfriend - yay!

A great cruise with bursts of life threatening speed thrown in for good measure.

Met at the finger wharfs in Wollomoloo ( sp!? ) and headed out to South Head, then back around the east side of Bondi - bloody Pompei cafe was closed so no Gelati for us - rats - then a warm down on the street side talking about .. yea .. the cars .. good thing "she" was into cars too * grin *.

A final fling around the back of the Tamarama / Bronte / Coogee bends and we headed off home - was a big let down having to cruise home through the ED and over the Bridge - at least I get to cruise through Karaba Road to Mosman throughthe back way - thats always fun for a skid or two.

Now we just need to get two or three more cars and it will really be a blast.

I'm glad I dropped by the Euro Mazda service center on the back back to the office from sunny Castle Hill today, for an oil top up, a quick check of a few "things" I thought I heard / felt, as it gave me a lot more zoom zoom'ing confidence to really drive the bloody car.. you know.. really really 'drive' the car ( as in "I'm here to cleeeeenn zee pool' ).

Got SMS's from Kev and Rob ( pricer01 ) - sorry you guys couldn't make it. Kev had a good excuse ( gets out the karioki kit ):

Red, red wine
Go to my head
Make me forget that i
Still need her so
Red, red wine
It's up to you
All i can do, i've done
But memories won't go
No, memories won't go
I'd have sworn

That with time
Thoughts of you
Would leave my head
I was wrong
And i find
Just one thing
Makes me forget
Red, red wine
Stay close to me
Don't let me be alone
It's tearing apart
My blue, blue heart

- neil diamond ( wrote it )
-- UB 40 ( nailed it )

Rob, sorry you couldn't make it - I posted a bit late - same time next week though yea?

Indeed I couldn't hear a bloody thing - I like to drive with the windows down and wind in my hair ( whats left of it ) and all that sort of thing, so even Tanaka had a rough time raising me on the radio a few times - I think I get into a 'zone' during my nightly cruises.. That and the Timo Maas ( fat boy slim remix ) of To get down.. all the way up to MAX VOL ( that's japaneese for 33 apparently ).

The way I figure it - the engine ain't working if it's not beeping!

I swear I get a ringing sound between 6,500 and 8,500 in 2nd and 3rd, it's kinda neat but I've got this sneeking suspision it's not entirely a good thing. But hey - all that kinetic energy can just slipp off in centrepetal ( it's not centrefugal is it? ) escape velocity of a crazily rotating drum in the rotary right? well thats my story and I'm sticking to it - and I won't hear otherwise.

I donated the bloody Michael Buble` cd to the great unwashed masses ( flun it out the window ) - and switched it for ronan keating on the way back from randwich ( short cut back from coogee ) - really wasn't in the "swing" of if it as it were ( did that pun work? ) - but I'm sure he'll grown back on me again soon.

Managed to demonstrate to some dudes on the bulevard at Bondi, with their bikes [ boy racer types - love 'em ] that the RX8 too can hit out at the 9,000 RPM mark, they paid kred to it while we waited at the red lights..

Then took it apon myself to provide an average display of the RX8's ability to travel through corners at slow speed while traveling at angles greater than the intended - I think I'm averaging around 30 to 35 degrees in the average slide - all this in 2nd gear through traffic lights, all very entertaining for those both in and out of the car really.. after that - the Tamarama beach corners were a breeze!

And to think that all this takes place with the sponsorship and endorsement in full of my darling wife who's only request was "where will you be?" - word to the wise, marry your best friend - speaks for itself really.

And for the techies out there - I managed to chuck into the rear right hand side seat, one of those cheap plastic multi-color 'chineese' shopping bag ( no disrespect intended - I just don't know them by any other name sorry ) worth of Ethernet cables, around 150+ of the things, or $1,000 worth roughly - for the thrill of having half a data centre's worth of network strapped to the back seat.

Actually - the truth of the matter was that they were still there from the weekend's site relocations and I'd forgotten them, but it seemed to make for a more balanced drive - I didn't feel heavy on my side - as phsycosomatic as that might seem - it was a laugh to say the least - I was picturing myself trying to explain to a cop why, if or when I got pulled up for being a tad on the wrong side of the rules, why exactly I decided to drive like a wild monkey with 150 ethernet cables in the back seat!?

I think I'm up for a commission as well on a Hymee Bar and Grill kit! Michael's down for one [ Hymee - he's been reading here already - I've told him to read our posting for the latest batch and email your dear wife's order processing address asap ]. And Michael's up as am I, for covering a share of the Hymee "on site installation" travel and accom costs if we can get two or three more Sydney folk to ante up - any takers? Rob? Kev?

Perhaps we could treat ourselves and our better halfs / partners to an evening at Basils in North Ryde for dinner, a quiet drive et al? Although that might eat [ **** - there go those bloody puns again ] into fuel funds - perhaps a gormet pizza or similar?

Took some pix with my Sony Ericson P800 but they are pretty spatchy - classic digital camera issue - low light - crap resolution ( in particular being a phone camera etc ) - but will suck 'em out and post for the sake of it tomorrow - I really should get some Zz's ( as long as there's less than 350 of them ).

Am hoping to meet Kev tommorow in North Sydney - yay - any reason to meet an RX8 pilot does it for me, and in my local neck of the woods as it were - Rob, you really should drop by when you pass through North Sydney!

I can stick your 8's in the buildign for parking if we go eat in N'syd although there's always parking in Little Walker Street ( it's 1P though which I'm now an expert on after researching state and bylaws on the topic of the 'P' in a 1P sign posted ).

So there you have it - the ramblings of a slightly RX8 pumped pilot who's just received clearance to land, and is contemplating a crash and burn for a few hours before I get to drive to work ( hey - it's at least some consolation for the 7 to 8 hours of not driving right ). **** - it's all I can do to stop myself now jumping in the 8 and comming home for a Milo with my little 2 year old daughter every hour * grin * - oh that will power - sheer brain muscle!

Enough crap.. nite all.. and for y'all in Sydney, for christ sake book next Wednesday night in your diary's now! approx 10:30'ish to meet somewhere central to all attending and as "Teddy And The Rough Riders " say "You Drive Too Fast" ( instrumental actually sorry ) [ http://www.thecoolgroove.com/rufrider.html - for those of us who are URL freaks ].

Oh, I think I read today in the Euro Mazda "wait here while we take ages to do this thing to your car at hourly rates mate" room, apparently it was 1967 that Mazda released their first production rotary? the Cosmo was it? Is that right? If thats right - it's my DoB - how hinky is that!? It's Hymee's as well, and .. was it Kev's too? Kev's DoB is one day before mine?! and we're both a couple of days away from Hymee's - that's just bloody hinky!

l8r y'all !!

Ok - how about we get a little more organised about the now infamous Dez's Night Drive session for next week?

Get your diaries out - and book next wednesday in for a meet 'n greet and night drive.

I'm hoping that at least the roll call will include the following folk I know are in the immediate area:

winning
pricer01 ( Rob )
kev
msydd
tanaka ( Michael )
jaycee
dez ( oh, thats me )

Bring CB radio(s) - tune to channel 8 ( hee hee ).

I'm thinkng that we meet at the finger wharfs again in Wollomoloo, around say 10:00 to 10:30, or even 11'ish - the later the less the traffic tends to be fo course.

We could do coffee somewhere there and meet and greet, then drive around south head road etc, then down through the back of bondi in an attempt to get lost, accross to the curvy bendy fun that is driving around tamarama, a loop through the hill street behind tamarama, then down to coogee, then back into the city via randwick, and split from there back home, makes for a few hours drive and we'd take a cool down break at bondi for gelati and snacks.

One and all welcome! SMS, PM, Email - but please do lock it in and bring radios.

Hey guys,

ok - I'm thinking of setting up two drives a week now as some folk like mid week and others perfer weekends..

so I'm going to try and make it Wednesday nights each week, and I'm still taking advice on what day on the weekends works best, but I'm figuring Sundays as most folk party on like wild rabid animals on Saturday night, as they should!

Wednesday December 3rd, 2003 - Drive is on !!

Ok, the drive is on, all and any up for it, pls lock in the drive and confirm by PM if you can.

Tanaka can't make it tonight unfortunately, bugger, but I'm hoping many of you can - it's always more fun if there are atleast three or more of us!

So I'm still going to try and get out late as possible, but keeping in mind that Rob ( pricer01 ) has an 11pm phone call to the USA, perhaps we'll get out say 9pm and get a solid hour and a half or more in and then we can find somewhere to cool off and chat and perahps coffee etc?

So meet time let's say aprox 8:55'ish at the latest - but 15 mins earlier is nice to be able to meet 'n greet!

So SMS me on (0414) 464 356 with "name: DND yes or DNS no" please or PM me, I'll be checking PM's and SMS's up to around 7:30pm and then it's up to you to get there.

Meeting at the finger wharf again at say 8:45, go f2f and meet and greet, walk through the drive plan and then go go go!

I'll have a spare radio if anyone is short or doesn't have a radio [ citizen band 40 channel ] to share for the drive.

Hope to see more of you there than less!

I'm going to burn a few drive play lists for fun, but if I know how many of you are comming it's much easier * grin *
