Attention Tuning/Performance fans
For those who might not visit the Tech Garage, there is a very good new thread there.
https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...threadid=17055
I happened to see this unit today in some of my research and didn't take much notice at the time. But now it has got me really interested!
Cheers,
Hymee.

Interesting find. Just as well that we have software engineers on the forum that hopefully understand most of these computer controlled gismoes.

It seems that we are about to get some really interesting information about ECU controllers. If we are going to get performance improvements to this car we need to have control over it!
I personally would really like to see a reliable way to disable the safe mode on the car for dyno testing so that we can properly measure what modifications are doing to the car. Otherwise we can leave ourselves open to purchasing parts that might look good but do not enhance performance at all.
I am interested in getting an after market exhaust plus CanZoomers ECU piggyback but cold hard facts about what actual change there is to HP seems to be very hard to get!
I am NOT going to part with thosands of dollars on a wing and a prayer. I guess patience is the thing that I need to have!
The good thing is that we seem to be making progress in this area.

Amen to that, Rx8 - smooth!
I've been quite surprised to read some of the comments on threads that are promising wonderful increases in power or whatever. The burning desire for new goodies seems to over-ride any caution about the need for clear proof, independently tested results, or any idea about long term side effects of changing the specs. It seems that for some folks the promise is enough. Zoom zoom, vroom vroom.
Following the progress certainly makes interesting reading, but - like you - I'll be trying to summon up hidden reserves of patience until better information is available.
Of course, what I'd really like is to have enough knowledge and time to be one of those pioneers doing the detective work and the mod designing. Alas this won't be happening this time round though. Although I'm quite prepared to put up with the results of my own experimenting I'm loath to take an expensive punt on other people's attempts without more solid information. So it's wait and see for me too.
I do like the sound of the gear on the thread Hymee linked to though - giving us a tool to control not just a prepackaged single solution.......

As in choosing the rx8 we all have taken a somewhat informative punt on the rx8 , as with eveything in life a calculated and well informed decision is all we can hope for canzoomer has been totally honest and upfront in his quest to produce his products and i would have no hesitation in tryng his products when they become available.
I agree some other rx8 products i would not be as eager to try , but in canzoomer i have total trust.

Good onya Michael.
I've been following Canzoomer's progress with interest too. I'm just not quite ready to plonk my money down yet though.
However, if it wasn't for those that take the plunge on brand new stuff then much of it wouldn't make it to the next stage (which is usually that it becomes cheaper and better developed).
I've been building my own computers for the last 10 years and the same dilemma is constantly there too. To buy the latest goodies or wait a few months and let others pioneer the incompatibility/bug stages?
Usually I wait for at least the first phase to pass. I still usually pay a bit of a premium price and all the problems are not yet fully emerged and sorted, but at least I've got the new gear to play with.
I guess I'm more a "Just behind the cutting edge" type of guy, rather than a full blown addict. :D
I do salute those that take the first plunge (from whose experience I often reap the benefit) , but this time I'm still going to watch from the stands for a bit while the early guys do their laps... :p
Cheers, Chris (cluck, cluck, cluck....)

It was your wise words of wisdom relating to being on top of the mountain and having the advantage of looking down both sides, heck why wait for it to be slightly cheaper etc .
I LIVE MY LIFE BY THE SAYING :" TOMMOROW IS PROMISED TO NO ONE"
So at our ages go for everything today , there may not be a tommorow.
Have wittnessed to many loving widows have a great time after burying 11st hubby. ha ha ha.

i think the main concern is will adding a piggy back vaild the warrenty of the car. i know that if something goes wrong and it was a direct result from that mod, then yes warrenty will be vaild, but since this is a modification to the ecu, will we be denined of any warrenty claims if something goes wrong (that is not a result from the piggy back).

If Mazda knew that we had piggypack devices they would void the warranty for anything to do with the application of this device
(ie the motor!)
The point about Canzoomer's piggyback is that you can take it out before service and providing you do not leave your fingerprints all over where the ECU is on the car they will never know it was there. Just do not announce to your dealer that you had a piggyback fuel controller on your car.

This looks very promising. Most of the tech talk goes over my head, but clearly like canzoomers stage 1, there is a lot of potential here for decent power gains without the complications and expense of forced induction. I am looking forward to seeing how this progresses.
IMO piggy back systems offer the best compromise between gaining performance and retaining the stock funtionality of the RX-8. Also, having a system that can be removed for each service sound good to me too.

I've already got the Windows interface piggy back working. Its called the Greddy E-Manage.
Check this thread to follow the progress:
https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...ghlight=greddy
With only light tuning I've added over 2 MPH and taken 3/4 of a second off of the 1/4 mile. You do the math, but that is a lot of horsepower.
I'm about to go out tuning again tonight. I'm expecting another 1/4 of a second and 1 or 2 MPH. These are significant gains - especially on a completely stock drivetrain. Add an aftermarket exhaust and you could easily double those gains.
