Baby Pram
Have anyone found a pram that fit into the rear boot?
I have one that is just able to squeeze in (after taken off the rear spare).
I don't want a stroller as I am going to have a new born.
I know a 3 wheeler is out unless there is something that have a quick release in all wheels.
Thanks for advice... and pls no comment of the fact that I am a young father Michael

is it possible to fit a rear facing baby seat in the rear? i have a 6month old baby and i find the only way i can fit a rear facing baby seat in either of my cars is in the rear centre....unless the front passenger has very short legs and doesn't need much leg room. I'm thinking about getting an 8 but this is the only thing stopping me atm...well until i can turn the seat around.
I am certain there are prams that have quick release wheels btw. You should go to some baby shop and cart the pram out to your car and try to fit it in before you actually buy it.

I am able to find ONE! All 3 wheeler can have the front wheel off but it is useless the rear wheel being so huge that it actually can't go in. The RX-8 boot stomach is big -- just the mouth is small.
Yes you can fit any rear facing seat in... you need a padding in the sacking part of the seat. ie. middle.
I am 6 feet tall and drive in a position fitted by the track instructor from last outing... actually 1-2 inches further in front. The baby seat have a 2+ inch gap not a problem.
I have bought a baby seat that matches the colour of the red/black leather :D

Taka, we have two prams. A three wheeler (Valco Runabout) where you need to take of both back wheels to fit and the Maclaren Techno XT. This is very lightweight, fully aluminium and fits easily in the boot (tyre out). Our daughter seems to like it. Also have a red=black safe and sound seat which matches the interior really well.

Yes I have seen that... they are good but too big still to put in the boot.
We have Peg-Perego from Italy ... it is a reasonable price and a touch bigger than the bugaboo...
There should be some good Australian product... Hymee any thought?
ps. that is my #2001 post

prams
Taka,
My wife has a baby equipment hire business so I qualify as a bit of an authority on the subject. After having a couple of kids and seeing all the suckers come in for the big prams, I would advise you NOT to get one.
Spend your hard earned cash on a quality full layback stroller.
It is more compact, easier to use, a lot lighter and you can save extra space in the boot for poo bags etc.
If you dont believe me, look in the trading post. 100's of prams for sale but only a couple of strollers.
Try getting round a shopping centre in a big pram, you don't.
Go the sport lightweight model.
If the missus hassles you about this, I will get my wifey to slap some sense into her.

But there is not many to choose from for new born?? Too late anyway, I always think Pram are stronger but I get nervous to have new born in one of those skinny little thing..
I guess I will join the queue - or pass on to my mates - after the baby is 6 months.

Japfan is right. No pram. You will be happy you didn't. That newborn will be stroller ready at birth. I know it's hard to imagine, but it's true. I am in the US. I used a Combi stroller which easily fits into the boot. Just take your car with you so you can see what fits.
Rear facing is hard. I just got through doing rear facing with my newest child in the RX8. I got a Cosco Alpha-Omega car seat. I was very careful to get the narrowest and shortest car seat I could find. I took off the base (there is a base on most rearfacing car seats to allow them to recline, but you can remove it if you want.) That gave much more headroom to allow baby ingress/egress from car seat. It also allowed the passenger seat to be further back in the car, though the passenger was still a little scrunched. So remember when buying a rear facing, the key dimensions are width and height. Less of each is good.

Rear facing fits without problem - even behind me.
Stroller is ok but there are still not many that can fit into the boot. Do you realize the boot mouth only 13" wide? I have a pram that is 12.5" wide and can fit into the boot with a little effort.
Stroller, unless it is very skinny, will be in the roughly same dimension. I can afford another $100 for a pram later on when the baby is 6 months plus.
I brought the pram so I guess I have no choice - it fits but I guess i am searching a smaller one later on --- I will keep looking. Plus I don't have to get the baby in the RX-8 as I have 2 other cars to drive

Japfan have gave me the idea of looking for a stroller.
I found one now is the EASIEST and smallest to fit the RX-8's boot.
MacLaren Techno XT

Stroller in a backpack
We recently bought the following fold up stroller for our son. It weighs 4 kgs and comes with a backpack that it is carried/stored in. Photos show the stroller in the backpack in the boot of a new MINI. Cost $100 from Target. :D :D

My wife bought this Jeep single stroller. Contrary to what you would expect from the brand name, it folds up very small. Only just fits in length ways but is very narrow and takes up less room in the boot once I've wangled it past the boot lip. Very light too.
But you win on the cooler brand name. :o
