heel toe is essential for getting into the right gear before the corner without unsettling the car . TUT TUT Revolver .

As for rpm at gear change -
Q . why do you think RB upped the limit to 9300 ?
Answer - so you can comfortably change at 9000 without fear of hitting the rev limiter .

Ok, ok. I don't notice much in the way of driveline shunt or the car becoming unsettled myself but I understand the theory, etc. Promise I'll give it a go next time I'm at the track so I don't get any more of these ones - or these ones -

Another queston (and I know I'm going to get flamed) what are heel and toe shifts? I may be doing it already I just don't know it by that name. And does anyone know the actual RPM the rev limiter kicks in?

Tut Tut from a young digger.
Heel toe definitely makes for a smoother downshift when done right. Its the best way to take a corner under hard braking.

I do it all the time out of habit. I know it's not necessary 99% of the time in daily driving, but I think it's good practice for those times when you actually need it.
And no, it's not because it makes me feel like Schumacher (I'm a Raikkonen fan anyway...). Just to be smartass, I doubt Schumi ever did a heel toe with his flappy paddle gearbox.

Basically it's being able to brake and revmatch downshift at the same time - search "heel and toe" and you should get a description on how to do it ....
Rev limiter kicks in at 9000 rpm although your guage will read a higher figure than that . Don't be afraid to hit it

I was going to say, the other day I maxed my 1st gear out against an Audi S4 (Closed course =)), and I had my windows and sunroof open so I heard no beep. Determined as I was to beat the Audi (especially since it was AWD and the run was from a roll so I wanted my slight advantage to pay off) I looked down for a split second as I shifted to 2nd I could have sworn I was at like 9500 rpm and pushing in the clutch jumped to 9600! Wheather the Audi let off or I beat him by some miracle, I passed him. Engine temp was still normal and everything felt fine. It was just odd since I've read about all the ECU tunes that raises the limiter past 9000 rpm and just wondered how mine could go past it (if in fact it actually did).

And yeah I think I know what you're talking about. Coming off the highway doing 60 at 3K I'll slow down and down shift to 5th and bring it back up to 3K. Same with 4th and blah blah.

I'm not sure that you do - heel & toe is not something you would do on the street . At the track you need to be able to brake very hard and downshift for the next corner at the same time without locking up your rear wheels . IE you are working the brake clutch AND acceleratror all at the same time ......

That was my thought too. He probably heard this angry little jap-mobile revving its ring off and decided it wasn't worth the effort.

Way to crush all hope guys =p

But yeah realistically he probably did. I only heard him go through one gear then he was gone. His sounded pretty mean. The stock exhaust is much like the RX8's. When you're just cruising along its very quiet and nice. But when you clear the pipes all hell breaks lose. Wouldn't be the first time someones considered me not worth the gas. But Cobra guys love to pick on me =(

haha sorry to bust your bubble
Having driven a B5 (early 00s - twin turbo 6) and ridden in a B6 S4 (mid 00s - V8), I can tell you both are significantly quicker than a stock 8.

when street dragging holdens and falcons etc, i take the gears upto between 8,000 - 9,000, just before the beep.

They don't encourage that kind of talk in here Noddi, just so you know.

I don't bother with TLGP's myself - it's not too hard to buy a cheap car that will own an RX8 in a straight line. Corners, however, are another matter...

Correct - a bog stock falcodore rep mobile will give you an awful fright if the owner wants to keep his/her foot down.

Hell, a young punk who's spent $10K on a hotted up V8 Torana might have the goods on you, so why bother.

Personally, i'm quite happy with the size of my nasty bits and would prefer to enjoy the car in its natural habitat - leave the straight line stuff to the simple world of boganvillea.

The best rotary enthusiast line I heard was when I had my Capella and was told, "When you have a rotary you stop going after V8s and start hunting bikes".

Shame it can't be said for the RX8 but I reckon I will struggle to find a car under 100K that I would rather own.

I've kept a few bikes honest through some tight corners but of course as soon as the road straightens out they're away.

I have heard the stories and had the terrifying experience of being in a couple of RX2's and RX3's on steroids that have beaten bikes of the lights easily. Just hope you don't hit anything or need to stop in a hurry!
