body work rubbing paint
hi all
i just noticed this problem on my rx-8 today. the paint on the corner of the boot lid is chipped from hitting the top of the rear light light lens. there is also an area of scuffing on the lens itself. also, a small area (4mm by 1mm) of the bumper has paint rubbed off from friction of the lower edge of the boot lid hitting. it can't been seen when the boot is closed. it doesn't appear to be touching when the boot is closed so i can only assume that the boot is hitting when it is closed by slamming it down. i was doing this by using the grab handle on the inside of the boot lid. i now just close the boot by pushing firm from the top of the boot rather than slamming it.
bummer.
anyone else experience the problem. i know a few americans have noticed the chipping on the corner of the boot lid from hitting the tail light lens.
cheers
mike

Having read the tread on peeling paint i quickly went and had a look at my car .
Just bellow the boot lid near the tail light between the body and the rear bumper there is a tiny gap were the paint surface does not get around the body of the rear bumper, i dont see this as troublesome at this point in time but i am carefull to make sure it does not get worse, especially when washing my rx8.
The variable paint surfaces between body of car and the rear of the rear bumper seem to adhere to the paintwork differently , as long as it does not begin to peel i am not really concerned .

some people in US talked about it long time ago.. I better check my car and appearently you can deal with the repaint through the dealer... Mazda Australia should know about this from the US counterparts

Timbo would be the guy to ask about this problem....Has done more miles than anyone here and still has the brace bar installed from my recollection......If the body is twisting, it would be interesting to know if Timbo's car is suffering the from the same problem and whether the brace bar acts as a chassis strengthening member....
What say you, Timbo?
Gomez.

Gomez, you have a good memory
By brace bar, I guess you mean the rails that hold the spare in place. I have kept that in place, but am not sure it is a brace bar.
No marks on my boot lid. I remember checking with the original post and saw nothing then. I just checked again, and still no marks -- even after Wakefield.
Incidentally, after Wakefield the car is still very tight with no new rattles -- except from my mobile phone cradle :p

O.K....yeah Timbo, the spare wheel bar is what I term the brace bar....
I think it was Taka who mentioned once that one of the aftermarket companies supply a chassis strengthening cradle that affixes to the same mount points....
Interesting...
Gomez.
P.S. I've done 2700K's now, no sign of chipped paint or scratched lenses....Haven't been setting any land speed records either, though .
Edit: Oh, yeah, I removed the bar as soon as I got the car home...
