Brisbane - RX8 prices
Hi Members
First time posting - please excuse any stuff ups.
I have been following the discussions for a few weeks now and found them most informative, many thanks. I'm off to do some negotiations on a new RX8 in a couple of weeks and was wondering the following
Car : RX8 Leather Pack ( Auto or Manual )
1. What price /where
2. Did this include any accessories
3. Did you trade ( ie did they reduce the price but give you a low trade in value
many thanks

Hi, CCX.....A word of advice on RX-8 purchasing. Make it plain to the dealer that you are happy to shop for a price from anywhere on the east coast.....I used the best price I could find to negotiate a deal here in Melbourne. That price was from a Sydney dealer.
The sales manual given to Mazda salespersons explains to them that RX-8 purchasers are INTELLIGENT, knowledgable and informed about the car they are buying. The fact that you are reading this confirms it. You are doing what most of us here did, I found this site invaluable in making my decision to purchase.
Let them know you will travel to get a good deal, make them earn the sale. Ask to meet the service staff who will look after your car, the sales book tells the dealer to introduce you.
Only one more bit of advice, buy blue.....
Kind regards, Gomez.

Welcome CCX,
Make them work for the sale. If you are trading, you will probably find they will write up the price of your trade instead of writing down the price of the new car. All within limits of course! At the end of the day, comparing apples to apples, it is the changeover that counts.
Unfortunately my RX-8 purchasing experience was before any deals were to be had.
Good luck!
Cheers,
Hymee.

Hi CCX,
Welcome to forum.
I'm a fellow Brisbane RX-8 buyer - but I won' t be in the market quite as soon as you - end of 2004/early 2005 - especially after spashing on IBM T41p laptop, new oven, anniversary weekend away at luxury accomodation all in the last 2 days :-(
We've bought our last 3 Mazda's from Eagers in Newstead. Generally we've been happy with our deals. As Hymee says they normally inflate your trade-in than lower the book price (on getting my SP20 the 121 was traded in for 12K - we paid $13K 15m months earlier - when the book was 7-8K).
I've generally found that you can expect to negotiate most extra's into the deal for little or no cost. Be careful not to tell them how little of the after sales (paint protection, fabric, tint, etc) you want.
Despite, the track record with Eagers, when comes it comes to RX-8 time I'll be looking for the best price. Already been checking out Centenary and Grand Prix. Been paying close attention to deals in other places to. If you go try Eagers, try Dan Dyer in new sales - he's still a car salesman but is at least pleasant to deal with in my experience (you can even mention my name - Aaron Hutson - might help with my price negotiations down the track).
I have a list of about $2500 worth of extras to go on my RX-8. I will be expecting to get those plus a bit extra on the book value of my SP20 when I trade in. It helps that some time has passed since the launch and availability has improved.
Remember Australia is one of the most expensive places to buy and RX-8 and go from there.

Now you have opened a whole new kettle of apples....!
Accessories on cars costing over $57009 have luxury car tax of 25% added on top.....ie your accessories will be 25% cheaper if you purchase them later.
You will also pay stamp duty on them before the LCT is added!
You will think much clearer when you are away from the showroom, too...."Nah, I didn't really need that leather protection...."
Feb 04 RRP prices......Luxury Tax prices in brackets.
Add extra for fitting....Mazda charge like wounded Rhinos when it comes to accessories.
Upshot?? When the well endowed chick at the dealership comes out to play with your mind......let your BIG head do the thinking......Just say no!
Apologies in advance if I am speaking to the converted, (or you are a chick and therefore don't think with the little head!)
Regards, Gomez.

Thanks Gomez
Darn Tax man ,
Excellent point about the luxury tax I hadn't realised that. What if you purchase them as a separate transaction but have them fitted before delivery ?
regards
CC
Male - First name Chris, but there was alread one of them floating around so I just used my initials. No middle name so I just added X to make up the 3 characters for registration

Yes - Both prices were on road drive away.
Higher price was from a dealer,
Lower price was from a "Find a Car" service.
And yes both vehicles were brand new , not demo.

Guys,
This is the information of dealer delivery and NSW government charge for Mazda RX-8.
We can use those information to estimate the on road cost for new RX-8.
New South Wales
Information
Dealer Delivery Fee for Mazda RX-8 1.3: $2,000.00
3rd Party Insurance, Arrange by Customer
Stamp Duty : 3.0% of purchase price up to $45,000.00
5% of purchase price above $45,000.00
Example:
For a $50000 car stamp duty is calculated as following:
$ 45,000 @ 3% = $1350
$ 5,000 @ 5% = $ 250
Total Stamp Duty = $1600
Registration Fee Per Annual :
Tare wt 1155 kg to 1504 kg
Registration Fee
Weight tax
Private
$ 45.00
$230.00
Total $275.00

Update on RX8 Eastern States pricing
Hi all,
Firstly, let me just say thanks to all the contributors to this forum. Over the past couple of months, I have furthered my rotary eduction immensely reading the entries, and have also been able to obtain a realistic expectation of what life will be like with an RX8. Many other forums only ever discuss the best aspects associated with that vehicles ownership.
I have now moved into the acquisition phase of my RX8 education and am looking to compare prices with other forum members. The best deal I can get on a
Manual with Luxury Pack is:
$64k on road - including about $4.5k in accessories & 6 yr warranty.
Is anybody getting better offers?
You don't need to tell me which dealer, I'm just trying to benchmark the best deals available.
PS
Note this is my first contribution, so apologies if I have broken any forum rules.

Well everyone here gets their name shortened, that's the Aussie way....so hi to you sexy! I s'pose Hymee, timbo, sco, skc, BVD etc are the obvious exceptions to the rule .
That looks like a terrific deal, double the warranty is great. I can see that it may not cost the dealer too much though, as I have had nothing go wrong in the first 9000k's/six months :D ! A RRP of $62610 for the Lux PacMan plus $4500 in Acc's, plus on road, for only $64K will make many here blanch.
Hard to imagine you could do any better......check if the car is an '04 model?
Regards, Gomez.

Hey guys,
Thanks for the feedback on the pricing.
Gomez - Car is a 2004 build and plate. Not sure if there is any 2003 given they are selling 150+ per month (across Australia).
For the early adopters, please take comfort in the fact that you have been enjoying your vehicles for some time now, and also you have pioneered the way for many of us by sharing your experiences and knowledge.
regards and thanks once again

Let me add my welcome to the forum.
Like yourself I don't yet own my RX-8 but I won't be getting one until early 2005 unless something very pleasant (and unexpected) happens.
I am very curious as to the source of the excellent deal you have quote in your first post. I would be grateful if you could provide the name dealer and location - fell free to pm me if you don't wish to disclose it publicly.
As I am not yet able to purchase imminently I have not been doing any hard negotiations with dealers but I am constantly monitoring the marketplace. I am especially keen to see what effect the forthcoming 5% reduction in import duty will have.
Indeed, I wonder if your price is in part influenced by that change - I know other manufacturers have already begun to move on prices as well.

I posted the account below of my adventures in buying my car on the Australian club site in response to someone else's query about buying. It's a couple pf months now since CCX's original question, and my story doesn't relate to a brand new car, but maybe there is some useful information in it for other people, so I've repeated the post here for those who don't belong to <rx8.com.au>. I also found I could get a better price selling my MX5 privately than dealers would give me when we finally got to changeover price.
1. I read all the road reports I could find in the local library's magazine rack, and on the internet and gathered enough technical information to demonstrate to car salesmen that I wasn't some wide-eyed patsy who would believe every wonderful thing they told me.
2. I then went to a couple of different dealerships to get an idea of the core of the sales pitch that they deemed most appropriate to lay on me, and of the starting point price of the car. At the time (May) that price was $68000 but there were the usual hints that perhaps something better could be achieved, depending on etc etc etc.
3. Back to the internet to see what the market place was saying about RX8. There are any number of sites. I found <carsales.com.au> to be as good as any of them but I'm not on commission so make your own arrangements. I concentrated on "Dealers Near New and Demo", and "All States", in refining my search and could almost always find seven or eight low km cars on offer. Over a period of a couple of weeks I could see the ones that hung around because they were too highly priced, and the ones that sold in a couple of days because they were attractively priced.
4. Ultimately I found a car that suited me after I was satisfied that I understood the marketplace. I should say at this point that I had also canvassed the private sellers' offerings via my search engine though I preferred to buy through a dealer if I could get a comparable deal. The car that I selected was the colour I wanted, had 1200km on the clock and was priced at $58960 at a Melbourne (not my home town but accessible) dealership. I thought that was a reasonable step down from $68000 for a three month old car.
5. I knew my local dealer (whom I had totally avoided through all of the above) had a similar car -- about 1400km and priced at $61000, probably negotiable. I rang the dealer (deliberately didn't visit the showroom) and said something like, "Couple of weeks ago you had an RX8 demo. Do you still have it?" "Yes", he said. I said,"I've found one on the internet that I am going to buy (I told him the address of the site on the net and the details of the car on the site). I'd rather buy locally than in Melbourne. Do you want to compete?" "Let me do some numbers," he replied, "and I'll call you back."
6. When he rang back he offered me his car for $58000, stamp duty paid and registered in my name. Not only was it the best price I could find, but it saved me the $2000 stamp duty I would have paid in Melbourne.
7. The car is a cracker, I'm a very satisfied customer and I have a local dealer who owns me and is happy to have me as a customer.
That's the story. Probably most of it isn't relevant to your situation but perhaps parts of it are. Pick the bits that help you.

Now is a very good time to buy a new 8
I purchased yesterday. After looking for used 12 month olds with 10 - 15K kms, for anywhere from $50 - 54,000, I got an offer of a new base drive away at $54,500....matched by 2 other dealers.......Needless to say, that was the end of the used 8 search....so, I got a Jun 2004 Base Titanium with black cloth including Front Dam, Spoiler, skirts, rear deflectors, front mud guards, Al. Feul cap, front and rear rotor crests, strakes, mats, darker tint, RX8 sill panels (standard ?) on the road with panels painted and fitted for $57,900. I was amazed.....the base car, sorry guys, was approx $7K less than when I first enquired 9 months ago and even with all the options listed was approx. $4K less. The leather pack could have been added for $5K extra. So, if your looking...try just North of the Bridge in Sydney or down on the northern just along from Manly...but don't buy the Auto !

Poverty Pack
I am sure you mean performance pack ! I agree with Hymee.....Who needs fog lights, self leveling headlights with popups, cheap leather seats, crappy aluminium covers on the pedals and an extra 200W of Bose and 3 extra speakers...the only thing I wanted was the power adjust seat.
Iwas in Miami a couple of weeks ago and visited Cam Worth at Pettit Racing. He had just finished a Motor Trend test session of a stock 8 versus his "Compressor" RX8 that will also feature at Seven Stock (US$5k for the kit).... he had another Black 8 with MazdaSpeed treatment and they had just added black and grey Mercedes quality perforated leather seats...it looked sensational...when the cloth wears out, I think I'll get real leather
Cheers
