Buying used - Advice?
Hey guys,
I am planning to buy a used RX-8, and was wondering if there are any tips I should know before I start haggling.
I have posted this in the General Discussion section but no luck there.
I live in NSW and am looking to spend maximum $45 000. I am currently looking for a low k's ( <30 000) , late 03-early 04, red or black one with Leather Trim if possible.
There are a couple cars that I have seen through dealers and privately that I am interested in but want to know when I inspect the car what i should be looking for. I have never owned a rotary car before and am not sure what are some common problems.
I have been reading this forum religiously and have picked up some pointers but any other advice would be helpful. EG The '03 models had problems with flooding? Or the different 'flashes', B flash etc..
So basically, any tips?
Thanks guys

Flooding issue has resolved with
Latest ECU flash, new starter motor, plugs and battery.
You may want to see if the pre 2004 model has their recall completed.
Look at the service history and speak to the owner regarding their knowledge of looking after the car. Like Engine oil check and stuff.
Generally they are ok and make sure you concentrate on engine vibration and gear shift (2nd or 5th gear) when you are test driving.
The more time before warranty expires the better.

Also look for excessive vibration in the drivetrain (telltale sign is a juddering gear stick at idle) - a number of cars have needed to replace the engine mounts.

Thanks guys
One question I have though which I can't seem to figure out from the threads is the issue about flashing.
I am up to speed with the recalls and other problems such as engine mount, starter motor upgrades etc, but am not too sure what the deal is on the flashing.
I would like the seller to have the latest flash. Would this be evident in the service logs if they service with Mazda?
What is the latest flash?

People get paranoid they dont have the most updated flash. mazda plugs their lil computer into ur car and updates it for you each time when you get ur car serviced.
