Stay tuned.

Needs must, eh

I agree with Gomez -- worth shopping with dealers in Sydney nowadays (not for us pre-order suckers, who had to pay full freight with our local dealers -- the only deal I got was mats ) I'm not sure what supplies are like at the moment. Mazda had a fire on the paint line which shut down production for sometime.

As jeelybean said, we'll keep our fingers crossed for you

Yes well as one owner of a one month old car, I can report that there was no real choice in colours for poverty pack cars - no reds or blues... Only Titanium, Silver or Black.. The next batch of cars not was not due until mid-May at the earliest and these were red leather packs.. No more poverty until July (maybe)...

Not really a buyer's market...

I'm happy to be guided by the locals.

And I have a healthy respect for the perils of the local constabulary - the ACT was the last place I got done (2 years ago now).

Buying a demo can be a good idea if you want to save some dough and can handle the fact that someone else may have flogged your car before you get a chance to do it.

I got my 6M L/P last November with mats, strakes, sill covers and alloy fuel cover on road for a smidge under 53K. It had about 8500km on the clock and they threw in the 10K service for free.

Hope that helps.

Part of your pre-game warm-up prior to doing battle with the car dealers in your search for an RX8 should be a careful look at one or two online car sales sites (<www.carsales.com.au> might be a good place to start). Look at 'Demos and Near New Cars' and you will get a useful start on where market place prices are. There is often a dealer or two with a low km car there and you can use their prices as part of your armoury when you get to serious negotiations with someone.

I told my local dealer of a car in Melbourne, and its price, and the name of the site where he could check my facts, and told him I intended to fly down and buy it. I also told him the name of the salesman I had spoken to about the car. He asked me to give him a half hour to consider, then rang me back and took almost $3000 off his own price to keep the sale local.

Keep the bastards honest, Tim

Thanks Ron, that's good advice.

Yesterday I went and test drove a 350Z, and got a trade-in price for one of those. Haggled them down a few thousand and told them I'll think about it (which I won't). That now gives me a starting point to deal with the Mazda guys.

The 350Z wasn't bad to drive, good motor, bit of a jiggly ride and crap gearchange. Bloody claustrophobic though. I don't understand how anyone could live with a two seater, you'd have to have no family and friends.

I have a slight problem with the 22nd, as I now will be in Melbourne that weekend, but -- bloody hell -- I don't need to be there for it to go ahead. Any volunteers to coordinate?

The next weekend I can do anything is 28/29 May, 4/5 June

As previously posted, still keen to catch up on the 29th somewhere convenient.

If it's all too hard, never mind.

Cool.

Just let me know where is good for the local contingent and I'll find my way there.

Doesn't have to be any big deal. I just thought since I was down there we could hook up and talk cars, etc.
