Change or cancel your order ??

Can anybody share any experiences with the dealers in changing your order prior to delivery ?

ie. I ordered the full leather pack in black in June. Expected delivery date is sometime in November. ( no updates on when from dealer)

I'm having second thoughts on black. Great colour when it's clean and I not have off-street parking at the moment. I'm thinking about switching to silver or red if possible.

I figure that somebody else with a placed order for delivery in Nov, who has one of these colours and is interested in swapping to black, is my only hope of changing at this stage. That is unless I want to wait another X amount of months.

Also, do you know of anybody who put the $1000 deposit down to secure their order and then cancelled ? Was there any issue in the amount being refunded straight away ? You would think this would not be a problem, given the number of cars on back-order coming into the country.

Talk to your dealer. I changed from Titanium/full leather to Red/cloth. My dealer facilitated this, making two customers happy.

I reckon the 8 looks good in black but it does have those downsides. It looks good in silver, too .. but there are a lot of silver cars on the road:o

Of course i'm going to be biast, but i like the black over the other colours. Red does look great in the flesh also.

I originally ordered Titanium, but after the drive day and seeing the colours in the flesh, i can't get over how good the black looks.
I wash and wax once a fortnight and generally i'm happy with my choice.

Yes i get annoyed when it rains just after i've washed my 8 but your going to get that no matter what colour you get.

Check out the thread about the Melbourne meet, the pics there may help you make up your mind.

Thanks guys ... appreciate the feedback.

I did look at the Melb meet thread and the photos are great. The black does look great and I must admit, when I saw it in the flesh at the dealer and took it for a test drive ......I was sold on it !

I think the velocity red also looks sensational. Red really suits this car and I suspect that it is also the most popular colour, given all the marketing.

Interestingly, I just received a call from the dealer advising me that my car left Japan on the 7th Oct and due in Melb in a couple of weeks.

His ears must have been burning. (either that or he is reading these threads ! )

There is light at the end of the tunnel !!

Black imo looks great standing still and in the showroom , however it looses its appeal in the real world it literally blends in on the roads and looses its lines , not to mention extra heat and tryng to keep it clean . RED BLUE YELLOW they make this car stand out and say here i am and proud .
Titanium and silver / Too many cars in these colours and make car look bland BRIGHT IS RIGHT IMHO.

I drive Victoria rd (SYD) on the way to work most days.

Have spotted two "yellow" RX-8s in the window of the TOM-KERR dealership at Ryde. They have been there for a few weeks now.

If you want to get a really bright colour, you should talk to them. I reckon they are stuck with them & finding them hard to move.

I know that Gosford Mazda (NSW) has a RED demo car (leather) they are willing to sell if you want that too.

I agree on the red, If it didn't have the gold specs through the paint i would have to say its just another red car. But it does have them and those gold specs set it off.

To some degree i hear what your saying L&L, However i have had no lack of attention when driving my Black Beauty anywhere.
To be honest, i would like people to leave me alone a little so i can enjoy the thing rather than have to put down my window for a chat every set of traffic lights.

Don't get me wrong i love the WOW factor, but i love driving it more!!

I nearly ordered a winning blue originally, but personally i'm glad i didn't as i'm tired of it already. I guess i would think differently if i actually got it?

At the end of the day it is personal choice, and after seeing all the colours together on the Melbourne drive day (except yellow), I'm now more than ever happy with Black.

If you don't mind washing Thommo, Always bet on Black!!!

Black is tops... yeah, gotta clean it heaps... but with dark chrome tinted windows, looks amazing... Have many people comment they like it better than the other colours too. I have kept it bog standard so far, didn't like the mazda bodykit ... might consider the mazdaspeed kit though

Wasn't convinced by blue until I saw a post in one of the other forums with a nice body kit and MS spoiler on it... that looks the bomb :D

L&L you make some good points and in line with my own thinking.

The black does look fantastic, but not sure that it is highlights some of the unique styling of the body shape ......it kind of blends in a bit. The exception is when the car is parked and you walk around it ... ie. reminds me of a black panther ...ready to strike !

Silver was always the safest bet and looks pretty good as well IMO, however, as one of you pointed out ... every other car on the road is now silver. I believe has been the most popular colour for all cars WW over the last 2 years.

The velocity red with the gold flakes is striking and just screams ..."look at me ! "

The downside of the "extra attention" is that you are a standout to be spotted by a cop with a radar gun and also a potential magnet for vandals.

Wizza - I agree that black is the safest bet ...

As you say ... it's all a matter of personal opinion. I don't have off-street parking at the moment, so keeping the car looking good, going to be a factor for consideration.

Those car covers are a bit of a **** and a hassle to use effectively each day. Does anyone use a cover for this car ?

Also, any recommendations on specific brands of car wax ?

Agreed, I use Meguiar's gold aswell.

I would absolutely recomend it. Use the liquid one though, it's much easier to apply and the result is just as good. (I have used both liqiud and solid)
