Computer advice...HELP!

I have only had the 46inch for a week or so, still learning, but it is brilliant, I took a long time to decide after looking at plasma and other lcd's. The Sony out shines them all IMO and worth the extra $$'s. Have had no problems viewing fast sport broadcasts, the response time is fine. You can even see dandruff on the shoulders of TV presenters jackets!. It also shows up good and bad post production editing and lighting/makeup. Some networks need to lift their game.

Yep, that's possible. 1080i/p is that good. Once you go HDTV you'll never go back.
We had an older local TV reporter that had it in her contract that she couldn't be broadcast in HD. She retired a year or so ago and that station finally upped their broadcasting to HD. She was that concerned with the clarity!

As a 'test' by the Sony tech I had on the phone I played a BR movie from my PC,
looked great but, again no sound. While it was playing he said pull off the HDMI plug on Bravia...so I did!.
I had sound for a split second.
The techs words not mine.." it is the Bravia's Circuitry that is preventing you from using HDMI only for PC use.
Why, I do not know, it is made in Japan don't forget.?
HDMI- mini HDMI is perfect for my HD Camcorder.
HDMI is fine for DVD Player.
Just not for PC use with this brand of TV/monitor.

As a suggestion if ANY of you guys are even contemplating Going HD TV.
1. make sure you have a good 'External" TV Digital antenna.
2. Make your move and buy it NOW if you can, the way the dollar is going prices are going to rise dramatically.
Sony have a 32 inch 1920 HD Bravia just out ( its made in Malaysia) but excellent picture, I got one for my 82 yo parents and they love it.
Last week they were retail at $2099.00
Sony's on line price now is $1799.00 (Just come down $300)
Got my parents one from JB-HI Fi for $1450.00 (KDL32V4000)
And you can use your PC with it.

For the record, please don't be a fool and pay $50 for a 6' HDMI cable. < $5. You can get higher gauge cable if you want. This brand gets rave reviews on AVSForum. I have 3 of them and they're great.
Mate who are you calling a fool you dick!
This thread and I am in Australia, you are in the US I gather.
I wanted a cable NOW not in days/weeks time.
They are all Double shielded , gold plated, frosted with Diamonds with a platinum Logo ,****, ****, ****...

DAVE,
Your plasma and DVD Player should have HDMI Connectors, so you can just Buy a HDMI cable from Tandy's ($49.95) and that is all you need to get them going together, if you have not already done so.
Running your PC through your plasma depends on the type of output from your PC's Video card, is it DVI?, you may need to get a converter adapter to change it to match your Plasmas PC input jack.
HDMI does not work for most PC connections to Plasma's or LCD screen, you will get vision but no sound.
A lot depends on the brand of TV monitor you have and its circuitry.
Apart from that once you plug in your PC to your plasma, Windows will configure automatically and work...XXXX Fingers!

I've got no real need to plug my computer into it though. I've got a desktop at work and don't use my laptop much, except when working remotely. Don't need a 'puter at home really - just another time waster when I could be doing something outside or driving my car.

Read the rest of the thread. Personally, I have no need to see the dandruff on presenter's shoulders or count the pores on some actor's face. Is your enjoyment really magnified to the same extent?
Ditto to audiophiles who cream their jeans over being able to detect some imagined sound quality in their latest and greatest music system.
I appreciate some people enjoy this kind of stuff as a hobby but to be honest the words 'get a life!' run through my head whenever they start up on it. Why does it have to be so complicated and why do some people get off on knowing all this crap?
Mind you, the same applies to golf bores, red wine bores, rugby bores, etc...
Meh, I don't like anybody atm.
EDIT - I should say this is by way of general comment and not personally directed at the people in this thread, some of whom I know and like...a bit.

Sports in HD is the real reason to go for it. e.g. you can actually pick up the rotation of a baseball and also clearly see the hole open up for a football carrier. Enjoyment enhanced! In fact watching sports in non-HD is irritating to me now.

I'll put it this way...that 21.85 posts you average per day is a fraction of what I would do in a day on each of two different forums at some points when in my prime (basically light college courses and winter so I never wanted to go anywhere). I've never stuck with a forum for much more than 6 months though - I get bored when I start reading the same posts over and over.
