Convertible RX8?

Apologies if this is a repost, I rarely venture out of the Aussie forum.

What are your opinions? My thoughts are pretty simple - I wish they'd spend their money on developing a factory FI version rather than a convertible. All convertibles do is soften the model range.

There are a couple of threads on it....the car is apparently privately owned and has been used twice now for this purpose....

I don't agree that a convertible softens the image.
The 8 isn't a lean mean bitumen-eating machine, its a sensible, in the immortal words of Jeremy Clarkson, "4 door SALOOON"!.

If the 350z can go topless, the s2k can go topless, i don't see why the 8 can't go topless.

I think most soft tops look like ***** covered up but a lot do look quite nice with the top down and i think the 8 wouldn't look too bad either.

I see your point Mogley, but for me some things just wern't meant to be...kids with a clean bedroom etc and cutting the roof off the top of an RX8 isn't one of them.

The subtle double bubble roof line is one of the things I love about the RX8. Removal would be heresy in my eyes but each to their own...

If they could fix the generated body flex, I'd ave one.

We have a double bubble roof? That sort of language doesn't make it through my email filters!! LOL

Hmm...true...but I still think our 8 as a convertible looks tacky. Just look at the 307cc....

S2000 doesn't have a convertible 'option' does it? I thought it only came as a convertible.

Anyway, keep the roof on and force feed the sucker!

I have never understood the appeal of convertibles. They are usually heavier, have excessive body flex and cost more and the hapless occupants are subjected to sunburn, windburn, road grime, rain and bird excrement. Why not buy a bicycle and get the same experience for a lot less money?

I love convertibles, especially on hot nights like the one we had yesterday!

The 350Z put me off convertibles.
I felt like Noddy.

You are a mug lair...and blind!

Too much time adding accessories and not enough time appreciating the original form methinks!

The car has a soft enough image already. We don't need to soften it further.

I'd prefer the money went into drivetrain development.

That's a cracker.

Agreed about the 350Z. It's not a pretty coupe and looks even worse as a convertible. Emphasises the fat ****. Like keeping the bad bit from a pear-shaped girl.

A sunroof in the RX8 is a bit of a ****. I'm sorry, but it's about the same size as a post box hole so why bother?

I may get a convertible one day ... but it all comes down to practicality.

"Sense and discerning taste".... While I am not keen to change your perception
I think I should admit it's more a matter of being old enough to have learned from past mistakes.
