Thanks.
I had my mounts replaced some time ago. Well worth checking them out before warranty runs out people. The mounts themselves, especially aftermarket items, aren't exxy but the labour can be, depending on who does the job.

ask the service centre to check the engine mounts and see if it needs to be changed. 99.5% of the service centres loves to do warranty works.
get a warranty check before your warranty runs out.

The service bulletin states 2004-2005 RX-8's with VINs lower than JM1FE******154999.
I have a 2006 with a VIN ending in 206100 and my engine mounts have been replaced twice - and I'm going back in this week to have them done again. Either I got the one odd 2006, or this bulletin needs to be extended

Duke, I reckon it's either the way your drive, or you got a lemon.
My mounts are getting replaced on the 14th, woohoo, I'll be able to change gears properly again!!!

I had one collapsed engine mount on my 2004 RX-8. My Mazda Dealer replaced it under warranty. Apparently, the lack of heat shielding results in their deterioration.
You can see it if you turn your wheel to the opposite side.
I've always had a funnsy sound from the engine, particularly audible when started cold. It sounded like a ticker tape like, tap tap sound. It usually stops after the engine has had a run, but funnily, after the mount replacement, there is an additional squeek with the tap tap sound.
Now I wonder if it's the engine mounts.

When I look at my mount, I can't see any outside evidence of damage (crack or leaking oil), but I also don't see a heat shield like the one pictured in the TSB. I has assumed that cars manufactured after that VIN range have the updated mount, including the heat shield on the bracket. Maybe not.

Hi,
My car has no warranty is j-spec type s import. I have all these problems with idle and my mechanic said that I will need new engine mounts.
Is there any difference on the engine mounts between the japanese version and the US version (i am planning to order replacements from US)?

I wish you luck blueballs because many people have been caught out by Mazda not honouring recalls outside the warranty period....unless of course you recently bought your car off a dealership which has its own separate warranty deal...?
