Cruise Cotrol problem
I need some suggestions on where to start in trying to work out why my cruise control - "set/coast" does not work. The on/off is fine but after having the gearbox removed for a spigget bearing and clutch plate change (at 293,000km's), the cruise does'nt work and I need it so I can keep my licence- u know what I mean? Any suggestions would be very much appreciated. Cheers Wayne.

There's a sensor somewhere to make sure the clutch is engaged and the transmission is in gear. You'll probably find one sensor/switch near the clutch pedal (probably not a problem) and another sensor hook up to the transmission (this is likely your problem).
I don't know the specifics for the RX8, just the standard way this is handled in most cars. I'm sure someone with more mechanical knowledge of the RX8 drivetrain could be more specific. I just know that Cruise disengages when you take the car out of gear (without clutching).

How did you get on, there are TWO External switches on the 6 speed Manual Box.
One is a reverse light Switch, the other a Neutral and Park switch.
IMO it would be coming from the Park and Neutral switch, I am not sure it's activation circuit for signaling to the PCM and cruise control, if it is NC or NO.
Either way if the switch is stuck or broken this should be the cause.
The dealer could have forgotten to plug the twin wire plug back together leaving the circuit NO.
This switch is Located on the Passenger (LH) Side of the gearbox casing right at the TOP. You may have to plug it in by taking off your console and gear boot?
Mazda Part # Y612-17-640B ( not cheap) and has been modified 3 times.
Looks like there was a failure issue with this switch.

Cruise Control
Sorry for the late response and thankyou to those who put forward some suggested solutions to the problem. Turns out the dealer has forgotten to reconnect the plug as suggested by ASH8- good one !!

It is a common issue when a gearbox is removed to renew a clutch, etc, the mechanic forgets to plug in the Neutral Switch, they take the car out for a test drive and don't use the cruise control.
