drive by wire throttle

drive by wire throttle
I was reading the start (wouldn't pay for it all ) of a autospeed.com artical on motec's control of wireless throttles and it said the major use of drive by wire is emisions and torque control.
this got me thinking how interceptors work under these conditions?
from autospeed.com.au
"A driver might want 50 percent throttle but, really, what they’re asking for is 50 percent of linear engine torque. In many instances, it’s beneficial to change the mixtures and/or ignition timing to make that output rather than simply open the throttle more."
so how do interceptors cope with the computer ignoring the throttle? where do they sense TPS, at the throttle or at the butterfly?

The RX-8 obviously has both. And both are available from the OBD.
As to what the piggybacks do - well that is a good question for the Tech Garage.
It would be good to see under what conditions they vary as well.
Cheers,
Hymee.

On a slightly related issue, one reason I didn't buy an XR8 is that the fly-by-wire throttle in the thing had its signal dampened by the powertrain control module in order to assist in drivetrain longevity...ie mashing the pedal did not relate to an instant signal at the throttle, the pcm ramped up the signal progressively.
End result, a sluggish 260KW V8....the RX-8 is a lot more enjoyable to drive, it certainly doesn't seem to have a dampened throttle.....

with electronic aids it realy is how they impliment them. I'm very impressed with the way mazda has tuned all it's systems. like the abs it's there but lets you still do some work then there's the DSC it lets you get offline before it decides to limit your fun. I don't see why people rate the DSC poorly, you can turn it off and it works so well in the background.
