Hi khoo2 ... welcome to the forum

You are damn right it has been threaded to death ... starts here and then here and most recently, here. Just try search tab with "oil" and limit the search to the Australian Forum.

I don't know the source of your "mazda say 10w30" but if you go to most Aus Mazda dealers these days they'll be happy to sell you Mazda brand Motor Oil Rotary API SL 5W-30 in 1 litre or 5 litre pack -- or more, I have no doubt. It's not even too expensive. So...... .....there you go.

(note to other forum members .... see, am sticking to NYR of not flaming anyone who asks what oil to use ... sort of....
:p )

Yep, now that we can finally buy RX-8 oil from our Mazda dealer, this saga has pretty much been laid to rest.

Welcome to the gang khoo2.

Someone should make an oil thread a sticky for future references for newbies.

BTW, I use the Mazda Rotary Oil, been very happy with it after experimenting with synthetics for a while. :D

khoo2, welcome to the forum.

In case you didn't know, US cars also have two oil coolers, whereas we only have one. So this also affects the choice of oil for Australian cars vs US cars.

I used 10w-30 as a top up oil until Mazda released the 5w-30 oil with no noticeable difference.

Whatever you choose - make sure you ask for it when you get your car serviced. Some dealers don't use the Mazda rotary oil unless you ask for it - so be clear to them what you prefer. And, if you go with the Mazda rotary oil, make sure they give you what's left from the 5L container for top up oil - all 5L are not required for an oil change.

Be sure to check your oil regularly until you understand your consumption pattern - say every 2nd fill.

Actually, it sort of is, in Taka's Top Ten. But taka, you need to edit your original post to make it more explicit .... pleeeaase!!

5-20 in Canada as per the dealer and the manual. Probably to account for the winters I gues.

Surely, given the temperature conditions encountered in Australia, 5W-30 is most appropriate.......

(oh damn, what have I done? Started another oil debate...........!!! :p :p )

Thanks for all the help and for the warm welcome to the site! Fantastic work guys, I really appreciate it. I'll be asking for the Mazda rotary oil today.

No worries khoo2. "Newbies" get cut a bit of slack for asking old questions, so don't be worried about that.

You don't have to search every thread yourself... use the search button at the top right and get the rx8club computer to do it for you :D

Well then SCO, oh "sCANalyser Guru" - when is said device going to be launched/available then, hey?
The marketing dept must be about finished with the "Naming competition" results by now, and the "Glossy Brochure" should be about done for publication, so when??

Tonym.
