u may want to check with Knight Sports again. I dun tink they are tuning on individual car using stock PCM.... its basically a remap or reflash only.

The article clearly states that the 202.3 hp figure is at the wheels.
It would be a sad day if the best hp at the crank for a knightsport flashed 6 speed was 202.3 hp, let alone the 140hp for the stock automatic. Jeez, even my mums 1.6 ltr stock corolla puts out 100kw at the crank.
Even U.S rx8s are putting out about 185-190 hp consistently at the wheels in stock trim.

U may wan to check with fdracer..... We have done remaps with RE-Amemiya and Knight Sports both in spore before... they do not require a dyno. And they will not be tuning indivdually based on ur mods for NA. Its actually a waste of effort to tune NA with stock engine and minor mods..... the remap can squeeze out watever horsepower u can possibly squeeze from the stock car with mods...

The dyno will be used to check the mixtures / power before and after the REFLASH, just a piece of mind thing for myself and the customers, also to make sure KS get the mapping perfect due to our climate conditions etc....
It is not real time tuning, just Flash, check tune, if not right, remap, flash again then check again!!! all clear I hope!!!
The only one we might be tuning the normal waydue to car numbers will be a Power FC on an FD RX-7..

Jas has email us a list to fill in so we can tell the Japanese what mod we have done. And they can have their good education guess of what that will be. I guess with their experience of remaping the MM cars. They will have some idea on ours. I hope

How long it is going to take?

Taka,
Time wise this should take no longer than 1 hour each car i would say, but I am only guessing at this stage, still new to me, but I`m assured you will be happy with the outcome as every other person who has had it done that i know of!!!!
Any last minute people for tuning give me an e-mail, as I still have a few available spots, as a couple of people pulled out due to distance travelling and vehicle issues etc..!!!
We are also tuning an RX-7 Power FC now we have a bit more time!!
Looking foward to meeting all of you!!!

So has the downloading been done and was it succesfull ? how much extra power was it noticeable ? We want more info ?
Glad i opted out of coming to Melbourne as my already once replaced Stock catalyctic converter , this time a Metalcat catalyctic converter once again burnout out ,WTF and i would have been stuck somewhere in between Queensland and Melbourne
I will post pics of the burnt out Metalcat soon .
Ben
EDIT: Heres the photo

Yes that is why I am holding back. I want more info.
We had a massive number of turn out! 3!
And we all have different story. If you just listen to mine, then it will be very biased. I am sure, right Jas?
Jas, work out the story and post it up
In the mean time you can look at my pictures

TAKA .....Posted this together with a graph ,in another section of the Forum but didnt post it here......... Strange
https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-aftermarket-performance-modifications-23/knight-sports-ecu-mod-18606/
More than 2 years since they initially crack their code, I have the opportunity to meet them and do the upgrade.
And it works for Aussie spec RX-8!
What they have promised is true. I have gain 5kW at the most important 5000rpm range and man... it is the first mod (after all these stupid money I have spent) that I can feel the major difference in power (I had the unichip remember).
It is not a magic gain, but it is at least do what they promised. And guess what, the dyno records the lowest rear wheel kW I have had and I have not had any engine mod for a long time (just replacing the filter with the same brand new filter from MazdaSpeed Japan, replacing the same spark plug, change with the same oil, etc.)
The mid range is magic.
Also I can feel there is a 2nd gain of power after 9000rpm, although it is not shown in the graph.
More driving impression soon.
I have more pictures and how it was done in my blog

More pictures here

Now the best engine mod IMHO, after speaking with the KS tuner.... (in order)
ECU flash (like 4Beat, RB reflash in the US)
Lighten flywheel
Final drive
Muffler
RAM intake
Regards

Yeah Ben! Because it is only my side of the story. You ask rexi or auzoom and they will give you a very different story. ![Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)](https://www.rx8club.com/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif)
Timbo: It does meet MY expectation as I expect 4-5kW across the whole range and they delivered. It is the first mod I have done that feel any pull from the engine (more torque)... the other just make me feel the rev going up faster. They advertise 10ps more at the flywheel and I have 7ps more at the wheel.
But I think I was lucky and need some luck.
I should remind myself not to put different fuel in (*even it is higher in octane)
. It feel difference (less torque, more high end power) to me.

OK well the day went like this.
Taka got hi pre dyno done and came in at 119 odd kw on a DTS dyno (Dynamic Test Systems). They took out his ECU, soldered on a jumper to allow them to download and upload the code, hooked up the laptop and downloaded the code. They then went in and played around in machine code (My first suprise) and made the relevant changes according to a little matrix they have. Once done they uploaded the chanegs and put the ECU back. Few minutes later they had the car back on the dyno and he pulled 124 odd kw. But that wasnt the interesting part. The interesting part was the reasonably substancial gain in torque around the 4-7000rpm range and also the previous power peak kicked in at around 8000rpm and the new addition power peak at 8500. What isnt shown on the dyno as they stopped at 8500 is there is a noticible pull right up to cut off (taka left the fuel cut in). All in all taka's flash was the model for how it should go (in fact they asked him to take photo's
)
Next up was Rexi. This one went exactly the same until the after dyno tune where unfortunately things had gone backwards. The interesting thing he is that the A/F ratios had improved but obviously power and torque were down. Consensus appeared to be that there was something affecting timing. All sorts of ideas were suggested, including leads, knock sensors, etc. After much flashing, reflashing and re-reflashing, Knightsport were keen to try and troubleshoot, but unfortunatelty Rexi had to head off and so left with his car back to where it started.
Next up was mine. So things started the same way again, except my car pulled 123.9kw on the pre-tune
but I cheated and was running VPower Racing. Next they whipped out the ECU and took the cover off and then came the look I wasn't expecting. Turns out there is more than 1 ECU used in Aus spec cars and guess what...mine was the one they hadnt done
so I basically packed up and left (after a bit of chat about FD's and turbos).
So there you have it. I will be organising with Jasoon to have my ECU shipped to Japan asap and report back.
Cheers
Andrew

Interesting experiences, and let me say taka, if you are happy with the result, that's what counts.
Variations in ECUs is a fairly common problem in this field, at least so far as I have observed in the VAG world. But, once sorted, the results for FI cars are really worthwhile, from what I have seen and experienced. If you are interested, you can see my experience in flash tuning the Polo, then adding a dump pipe here:
http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/newf...10&postcount=1
I have to say my butt dyno is pretty insensitive, as I couldn't really pick the 10Kwatw gain the dump pipe gave me ---it seems to take me about 15Kw to notice

Hey timbo, that would be the extra padding ![Wink](https://www.rx8club.com/images/smilies/wink.gif)
Ohh and when you are measuring the affectiveness of exploding fuel, I think it should be fairly obvious that its not an "exact" science.

Exploding fuel.... hmmm
Here are some of my photos
(all here - http://s97.photobucket.com/albums/l2...%20dyno%20day/)
Firstly the boss on the right discuss what to do tonight after work. Yashushi san is the tuner and he seems to be happy with arrangement (cf. the boss)... just kidding. I did not know what they were talking about haha.

Then the tuner makes all the changes, firstly take the ECU out.

Solder on the circuit so they can upload and download freely.

Write the parameter from their research and upload

Agree on the measurement issue, but regardless of the absolutes, the deltas should tell the story.
Now here's a topic: engine tuning: art or science? Discuss
