Fair question, and I cannot answer for Mazda -- that is for them.

However, I can say Mazda is supporting this event -- quite strongly, I might add. This event is about driver training, and getting to know the handling and performance characteristics of your car on a closed road circuit. Mazda clearly advocates similar types of driver education and understanding for new owners through the Murcott courses that were included as part of purchase. I underscore the event is not about 'racing'.

No names or other details of owners will be supplied to Mazda or any other supporter / sponsor of the event by the organisers.

From the conversations I have had, I am aware Mazda is concerned most about modifications which void warranty, not about use of the vehicle. And this mostly relates to non-obvious modifications, such as changes to the PCM, which alter performance characteristics beyond the factory spec, and which are removed before making a warranty claim.

You should be aware that Mazda knows about this forum and probably monitors it regularly

Modifications that void warranty ha ha ha :D well i guess Hymee and the other forced induction guys will have to get David Cooperfield (Magician ) or Martin St James ( Hypnotist ) to hide their cars from Mazda .

Most likely Mazda will learn far more from forum members than we will get to know from them as we have noticed they dont let out any usefull information until they are forced to :p ( recall of control arm ) etc

Michael -- read what I reported more carefully. They are not worried about FI mods, as anyone contemplating these is clearly aware their warranty will be void.

Most of the other mods( piggybacks ) that they are concerned about came about because people like Maurice CZ WANTED to get back the power to their rides that Mazda falsely advertised as being there in the first place .

2 years past the release date and 6 flashes down the track they are still playing catch up with the cars performance .

as far as i know, no major car companies "covers" piggyback computers/chips........
i wont be surprised if the mazda representatives arent taking the number plates/details of the car down for "future" reference
take the plates off and put a sticker over your windscreen rego sticker
i'd rather to be "safe" than "sorry" :D

ohh boy, conspiracy theorists anonymous will be busy this week A number of dealers conduct track days, mine included, so I have a base covered there. You are also doing nothing illegal and as far as I know there is nothing that says that driving your car on a track will void your warranty, racing yes, but that is the reason we aren't racing (remember the no timing discussion).

It makes me angry. Mazda has offered to support this event as Timbo mentioned and all you can do is bitch about whether they will try and void your warranties. How about a simple thank you to Mazda and enjoy the event (those that are coming, that is).

Whoa I did not mean to start a big sh*tfight. I knew we wouldnt be racing (hence the quotes), but I was not sure whether driving your car on a track could be construed as invalidating your warranty.

Actually I think I was a few gears short when I sent that because what I really meant was insurance. I imagine if I ding my car I would not be covered by my insurance co - I'll have to check it out!

I'd be glad if Mazda reps turned up on the day, shows they are genuinely interested in their product rather than just selling 'em!

Mazda will not freak out if you go on the track for an educational advanced drive day like we are having.

they did a questionaire over the phone and asking your past experiences...
back then i was one of a founding committee members of club audi nsw mkII (i still am.... sort of), and the guy i was talking to he knows i was participating in the car shows and in the automotive industry
at the same time i have heard of a female rx8 driver got refused.... because she drives an auto

I'm not sure they're exact reasons... I think possibly because the car is under hire purchase... so you're not an enthusiast if you use a tax effective means to fund your pride and joy. Anyway 'nuff said about this ... it's OT for this thread.

Well, I probably overreacted but the constant 'Mazda is the enemy' attitude prevalent in some threads on both sites gets a bit tiresome, especially when they've been good enough to come to our party (so to speak).

In short - participation at the Nats will in no way void your warranty so long as you adhere to the rules for the event. However, most insurance policies will NOT cover any damage sustained on the track. Up to you to check your own policy.

Because we're all in the same boat insurance-wise there is more incentive to ensure none of us does anything silly so don't panic - it is not going to be a free-for-all.

Dave, I'm not so sure about that. I spoke to the dealer I bought mine from, and they said "if you blow the clutch on a racetrack, you're on your own"!

I don't think the Nats will involve you doing anything that puts stress on your clutch outside normal spirited motoring, so if the clutch goes, it is likely already to have had a fault

Absolute bullshit. So long as you can demonstrate you weren't abusing the clutch at the time the location does not matter! Tell your dealer to re-read the warranty before scaremongering with customers.

And as Timbo said, there is no reason why tracking the car should result in abnormal clutch wear - it's not like we're dragging or anything.
