I'm keen.. If I can get the g/f to agree to me taking the '8 on the track.... ... ... then again I 'might' own a NA6A MX-5 by then for trackdays., would anyone be upset if I took that on the track and left the '8 in the carpark?

Well, I guess before we get too much further along that line we need to secure the track, etc.

Any ideas how we go about that so no-one is financially exposed too much? I'm happy to kick in some dough now but I don't fancy covering the cost of the track hire and then find the whole thing falls apart.

We are "pencilled in" for Saturday 22 October; I'll have details about what we need to do to secure the booking soon, and will post here.

Just to confirm, there are no other available weekend days at Wakefield this year.

Rowds, I don't think we'll have a problem if you track your MX-5 (lucky bastard!). It's just that you'll not have the experience of how the 8 performs on the track :p

OK, we're up to 17 potential starters...but we need more if this is to go ahead.

Those who have indicated in this thread or elsewhere on the forum as at 10:00am 27 June are:

timbo
takahashi
Revolver
Hymee
xxup
sco
MissRX8
auzoom
LittleJohn
RXP33D
xatnep
mikeyr
Gomez
Gibbo
Ciao

The circuit will cost us $3,200 to hire for the day. There are additional charges for timing, towtrucks, ambulance etc, and we need to work out what we need.

To secure the "pencilled in" booking, we need to lodge a deposit of $800, which is fully refundable provided we give at least 4 weeks' notice in writing. I am happy to cover this for the time being, but I'd really like to see some more members commit fairly soon.

So, I suggest those 'state coordinators' I 'volunteered' earlier follow-up with those they know who might be keen but are not on the above list.

I am happy to set up a group email list, as the forum system seems not to be working....my email address is timbo_rx8@mac.com Email me there, and I'll add you to my group

I like your idea (suggested broader community in the earlier post). And I'm also conscious that Timbo probably has already broached this idea.

I sort of feel it might be a good idea if we can "pull one off succesfully" ourselves first, then we might be able to attract more corporate interest for the next one???

Cheers,
Hymee.

I think it would be OK as long as none of the cars on the track had any pistons in them! :D

I saw a turbo 13B "MX-5" at QR one time.

Cheers,
Hymee.

Seal the bonnet and play 'braap braap' sound effects

I reckon there's no problems with pistons on the track....winning awards may be a problem, though (on second thoughts, maybe a 'special' prize.... :cunning plan: )

Yeah, fair enough. Good to do one to learn on so we can iron out any wrinkles before making it bigger.

Okay, since Timbo volunteered me as 'Sydney Co-ordinator' I better do something. :o

Frankly, I'm still only relatively new to the forum so I feel a bit disconcerted making suggestions to the older hands but in order to confirm some numbers to Timbo can you please PM me and let me know if you are definitely planning to come or at least a maybe subject to more details being finalised.

Please also make any suggestions you like as to what you want to see and do at the Nationals as well as convoy arrangements for the trip down and back. We probably also should look at transport of bulky stuff like spare wheels for the track and stuff like that. If there's enough gear to go down it might be cheaper and easier to throw in for a pantech and grab someone to drive it down and back.

Cheers

Taka,

After turn 4, it starts to go down hill. All the way till about the apex of turn 8. 8 to 9+ is up hill slightly, then a gently down hill through to the hairpin (10) which flattens out for the straight. The last half of the straight seems down hill through turn 1, and starts climbing gently through turn 2, and continues gently up hill to turn 3, between 3 and 4 it is a bit steeper up-hill. My favourite part is the 4-5-6-7 combination.

Cheers,
Hymee.

I agree. The 4-5-6-7 combination is great fun. Then you hit 8. And if you've apexed properly through 7, but you forget how sharp 8 is, it's very easy to be drawn in to 8 too early instead of staying wide to the right...and then the trouble starts...:o

10 is also horrible. Downhill, off-camber and if you've apexed 9 correctly, you can be hauling a lot of speed which needs to be shed. But get 10 wrong, and the RX-8 seems to take an age to get onto power for the straight...and there goes your lap time

Sorry dudes, been off-line for the last week.

I'm IN (barring any unforseen last minute work stuff coming up). I'm almost positive that Triple G will be keen also.

As I said on rx8club.com.au I'm committed and will contribute to the cost of hiring the track, but I cannot be 100% sure I will actually attend. I arrive back from the USA on the previous weekend and have no annual leave available to take the Friday / Monday off. I would have to drive up Friday straight from work and that's not really a drive that I want to do into the early hours of Saturday.

If things progress well I'll take the day off as leave without pay and do the drive during the day.

Finally, if we are really interested in making this the start of a real motor club like the MX-5 Club of Australia we should definitely contact Mazda Australia. At the Mazda track day at Sandown one of the Mazda Australia staff (I can't remember her name) said that Mazda would send out info to RX-8 owners.

I would suggest if we did organise this that we create some kind of information website that isn't a post to a forum, because forums can be intimidating to some internet users.
