Exhaust sound / note

Hi All,

I wanted to find out some info or suggestions regarding exhaust sound.

I am considering a Hymee system, but I really want something real loud, im talking strong wrx rumble or strong alfa v6 equivalent for an rx8.

Now this isnt about a hymee system or any other brand being good or bad, this is about my intent to put something fairly loud and rx8 rotor sound enhancing.

Can people please suggest something, ie some-one was saying twin canons....etc in getting the intended sound, I dont know much, in this department, but I could do with good sound advise.

Keep in mind I dont want to remove pipes or cut open things, just add a real strong exhaust note, even when the car is idling say at the traffic lights.

I'd prefer local suppliers/fitters for parts etc.

Thanks all

Cool Nope...

Can't be done.

I am, as always, wide open to correction, but what you want you won't get. The rotary sound is, by nature, raspy, poppy and crackly. Consult any owner of a high perf RX-7.

When you go louder, you also get cracklier, raspier, and REALLY nasty! A 'cat delete' pipe will give you a MUCH louder, but higher pitched growl - it's been compared to a circular saw cutting fibreglass sheet!

Two people I know of have tried it, and both went back to just a good cat-back.

If you can get a Borla or a Hymee, that is as deep as it gets.

Be Carefull about how loud you want to go, because what is loud at idle, will be screamin' at 9 grand on the tacho. Even the hymee makes the boys in blue a little interested when you hit 8k in the city amongst the buildings, wrx's get away with it abit 'cause they dont hit 9k unless there's something wrong!!

Exhaust sound / note

I think the Racing Beat system would come close to giving you what you are looking for.........great sound and a sligh increase in performance.

Daz, the Hymee setup will be plenty loud enough for you.....any louder and I would have been mounting it on the garage wall as an unusual wall decoration! As I said in my review on it when it was installed, I was slightly taken aback by the sound level increase.

Now that I'm used to it, it's fine, however I am always aware that will offend those with more sensitive ears than mine....I take it easy in the wee hours.......

It matches what you're looking in for in a "strong WRX rumble"....

Gomez.

Hymee....don't forget that 10%...........

In the rating of 1-4, Hymee's exhaust is about 2.

Same as Fuji, HKS, Greddy, Racing Beat. Some are rated 3 in the HyperRev Mag. And the loudest is Buddy Club and Apexi.

Oh Philip I will P/M you

As I said I am considering a Hymee System, and that is all good, but as sound is something I wanted to put attention to, I just thought that there may have been louder, but from the views and experiences (i've got to look up to experiences, as I myself wouldnt know), the general outlook, is that Hymee's exhaust is the cake, so thats cool, I was just doing research thats all, and Hymee, mate I never thought your system wasnt good, I just wanted something catastrophic.....

And yes phil gave me the low-down and I heard it going off, i liked it Phil

Daz,

It is cool. I didn't read anything into this post that you didn't like it. It is sensible to do the research. Personally, I wouldn't want anything louder. I can keep mine quite when I need to, and I can make noise when I want. And it is just under ADR limits, so Plod can't be a threat.

Cheers,
Hymee.

What is the rating for? Loudness? Not the criterea I would use. Tone/Timbre/Mellowness etc count for me as well.

As far as I know, all the happy owners give it a 4/4

Actually:
4/4 on note
4/4 on quality
3/4 on price (not expensive enough )

Cheers,
Hymee.

Oh yes loudness.

Hymee's catback is just right in this.

Note of Hymee's is more of a wet/alive sort of note with higher pitch at high rev... I am more of a deep dry note of a man!

I want an exhaust that sound more like the FDs... I will know today if I have the right one

Hymee - I P/M you

I guess exhaust tone is a matter of taste. I would agree with an earlier post that it is difficult to see how one would get that really low rumble with the rotary engine. Like Gomez, I was initially a little overcome with the sound level from the Hymee sport exhaust, but I have grown to love it, especially when I use 5,000 rpm+. It isa lovely tone but legal and very liveable

I was extremely impressed with Hymee's when I came over and he took me for a spin. When just taking it easy round town it gives a much deeper nice rumble without out too much volumne. However get on the revs and it'll certainly wake you up, and turn heads on the street. But stops short of causing ear bleeding like some of the ones on RX7's.

Cheers
---Dave
