Final Inspection no longer doing car wash

I went to Final Inspection yesterday (Sunday, 16 Nov 08), and the place has become Magic Hand Car Wash. I was like

So, does anyone know where to now that they're no longer offering car wash? They still do detailing, but that's about it. They've been the best hand car wash around, and it's a big set back to see them close their car wash business.

Unless you want to be abused by the owners at the car wash station or do it at midnight. If you cannot use a bucket and sponge, there is no way you will get a good clean. I doubt Iggy will put the car wash brushes.

Don't tell me you wash your car at home Nath.. haha.

Iggy, try the one at Hoddle street opposite to Collingwood town hall.

OK, count me among the peasantry, too. I prefer to wash my car at home. Firstly, I can think of lots of other things to do with my very hard earned money, secondly, I do a better job, thirdly, it takes less time and I don't use any fuel because I don't have to drive it somewhere, and thirdly, I use a wash and wax which doesn't strip off my polish. I can do both my wife's car and my own in 20 minutes and use bugger all water. Another advantage is that if you polish it after a home wash, it doesn't accumulate dust and dirt on the way home.

I would avoid "brushless" car washes like the plague. To get the cleaning action without a brush, they are highly caustic with some strong solvents and will in time strip the clear coat from your car, allowing the underlying paint to oxidize. I had a look at some of the things they put in these formulations, and they're scary strong. Even the hand wash stuff will take the polish off your car. They have all these stupid sudsing things in them so that the punters think they're getting a good clean (you don't need suds to have a good detergent). Commercial car washes are essentially bullshit, and to be used only when water restrictions prevent you from doing it at home.

So what do we amongst aristocracy do when we aren't allowed to wash at home (unless you have a water tank) and the queues at the hand car wash places are always long and you aren't allowed to "bucket" or "hand wash". That leaves us as taka said to do it in the wee hours of the night or take it to places like Final Inspection.

Places like Final Inspection do a better job than you can possibly imagine, and at a price that I thought was more than reasonable. Unfortunately I think they have fallen to the government requirement that any public car wash must have recycling processes in place.

Cheers

Andrew

Only your last sentence is revelant to me. It is a $1000 penalty to get caught using a hose for fresh water...

So it is a $1000 fresh water wash or recycle water wash? Water tank need to add something to the tank ... right?

I have found that washing my car with tank water to be the best way to wash the car. Now there are no more residues that can harm your paint.

In the past I had to make sure I dried my car right away as any delay caused horrible white deposits that where difficult to remove if left unchecked.

It is very hard to talk washing cars when the southern state is so dry and the northern states are so wet.

Some tents are set inside the shopping centre car park of Box Hill, selling waterless cleaning products.

$14.95 is actually quite attractive option when I am looking at doing it once a month.

Taka, I did go there a few times a while ago, whilst they were good to start with, I found they have now declined in quality (the result).

In what way? They are the same men washing the same way in the last year or so... only that one of the worker brought the place and get all his friends to wash for him.

I don't really care as I don't have a good paint to look after haha. Most areas been resprayed... hehe.

there were times when I watched them, they didn't wash the sponge they've used on previous car, they only put it in soap and goes onto the next car. Whilst there's probably little chance anything might scratch the paint, there's always that chance

From their forum:-

Final Inspection Discontinues Wash Services

As of today, Monday the 10th of November, Final Inspection will discontinue offering Car Wash Services.

We will no longer operate out of the Boutique we have occupied for almost 2 years. All Detailing Services Booked from Wednesday the 12th of November to 1st January 2009 Will Be Honoured via a Mobile Service.

Final Inspection will continue to operate in the same manner as it has been, albeit without the Wash Services normally offered at the Brunswick Site.

We will be contactable on the same details:
(03) 9387 8008
info@finalinspection.com.au

www.finalinspection.com.au

and soon, products will be available online via the fresh Online Store to be launched this Friday the 14th of November '08.

We Thankyou for all your support & custom over the past 2 years and we sincerely hope that this does not inconvenience you. A Large Franchise will operate out of the same site with Washing Services shortly.

Damian.

I've picked up so many little stone chips, dents and scratches over 4 years that I couldn't really care anymore.

Clean enough is good enough. I just whack it through the local Crystal Carwash and sit on my *** and read the paper whilst their little team does it...polish it every few months myself, which seems to keep it shiny(ish)...
