a centrifugal SC should be the same as std in sound untill well after 5000rpm.

was hymee's SC that loud on the race track at the first nationals? I didn't hear any complaints about it. maybe some who was there can comment?

well the fact that its useless until 5000rpm should tell you to ignore it joking aside, in Vic noise is tested at 6500 rpm or 3/4 of RPM where max power is made. So yes it may make it for noise, but who is going to pay to have it engineered and EPA'd?

As for the noise from Hymees car, I never said anyone would complain about it, I said there are legalities that have to be adhered to. I am not saying it couldnt be done, the issue for me is if I get it done, I would have to pay to get it legal and I would have to find a way to quickly and easily change the exhaust restriction off when I am on the track.

ok, now I see. I'll check to see what is required in QLD to get the ok. we have fairly slack laws so I'm not that worried about getting it to pass, noise or smog (if we even have a rule).

just checked:
QLD have to pass a 90db noise test as per national testing guidelines.
emissions only state the crank case gasses must not be vented to atmosphere and no visible emissions.

still investigating the others.

The promaz car has been renew, the old one is kicking and sold for the mere reason of changing to Phantom Blue the logic rehind dumping billiant black. Anyway, the kit is sorted (I believe) with the cooling issue and running strong even in low boost.

High boost are now 220kW

Me, is pure Renesis owner, no one can tempt me to a Promaz kit.... anyone try? Only takes $12000 haha

Well taka, you get times that are as good as the turbos ... so, imagine how good you would be with one!

In NSW, I do believe that its also a noise/pollution test as well as no venting into the atmosphere of wastgate/BOV emissions.


you also have to consider the power to weight ratio if youre doing up a crazy beast

What sort of engine life can we expect from a turbo'd 8? I'd imagine the engine would be running under more stress than standard.. has anyone tested the longevity of their engines under FI?

I thought it was tested at 4500RPM?

Well DrGonzo... only time will tell.

I am not sure what rev it was tested on our local car but 3/4 of max rpm is the norm (or the "protocol") that EPA uses.

This is all unofficial from offhand conversations with Simon and the guys at ProMaz, but I believe the ProMaz kit original was a .9 something A/R and used a fairly large intercooler. The recent changes before being engineered was to a .82 A/R and a smaller intercooler. They run standard on 8PSI.

As for the rpm, I posted it a few times with links and cbf digging it up again.

All I can say is 16,000 km's so far under the belt @ 200+ kwrw and now running 227+ kwrw. That includes a number of track days thrashing it whenever I can!

Enjoying every additional kw & Nm!

Like all engines, its designed to make x amount of torque and x amount of power over its lifespan.

So if you were going turbo, without upgrading internals, it would surely then shorten the lifespan of the engine given that the turbo will make more power and torque compared to the standard unit.

Although MazdaManiac did mention this elsewhere on a turbo thread.

Don't disagree with the logic but what is the design (as opposed to released) 'x amount of torque and x amount of power' …? Were there any safety factors built into the engine or exist in order to meet certain stringent regulations eg EPA etc?

What is the "lifespan" of the engine (unadulterated)?

Admittedly time will tell.

There are a number of factors to consider here:

1. Most RENESIS engines running with FI spend only a small portion of their time under boost
2. Boost comes on progressively. ie even once you hit boost if you only rev to say 4000rpm then you may not be at full boost
3. All of the kits mention run very loow boost levels

Combine these factors and assuming a good safe (and well monitored/maintained) tune and you really have very little to worry about.

Good to hear! It's the first time I've heard anyone with one of the Aus kits stand up and mention there's some longevity. The rest seem to disappear

I know Archies own car has now done around 15000 k with turbo on and still going strong.
I will quiz him about some of the other kits he has done a see how they are going.
I know he has had a couple of people who have had their kits for over a year now coming back in for more upgrades :

Agreed, but I am sorry, I would take anything that Archie DOES say with a grain of salt. As I do Simon at ProMaz unless I could see any claims for myself. Its the nature of business to find the positive in everything. Its the nature of people who have paid $10,000 dollars to be a little less "creative" with the foibles.

PS there should hopefully be 2 more active members with FI kits here in the next few months
