Front Brake Rotors and Pads

Front Brake Rotors and Pads
I'm in the market for some new rotors and pads for my RX8. Are there any good deals out there or places to source parts from?
Is it worth getting aftermarket rotors and pads or should i just get oem parts. My RX8 is a daily driver that doesn't really get driven all that hard (no track days)
ABS have protec rotors and Lucas pads for $520 fitted here in adelaide that are compatible with the RX8 an el cheapo route that i have been contemplating.
Thanks
Henley

OEM parts are quite good actually, and I would suggest you only change when you feel they are inadequate (otherwise you'll just wasting your money on something that you won't outlive in the first place).
But if you do want to upgrade, there are heaps out there. maybe start with pads first, depending on your budget, EBC probably cheapest (*hint*), or you can go JDM brand like endless or project mu.

As Black-8 said the OEM pads and rotors are really quite good. If its for street use only I see no need (except for price) to use anything else. Most of the aftermarket replacements for street use are cheaper but are nowhere near as good as the OEM ones.
Most of the aftermarket brands not for street use are unfortunately inferior to the mazda stuff for street use, mainly because they need higher temperatures to be affective, and they will annoy the crap out of you with their sqealing.
Get a price from your dealer and then drop an email to the guys at OnlineMazdaParts.com who will most likely be able to deliver to your door the same parts for a lot cheaper. You should look for the sports suspension ones.
Make sure you let the dealers know that they need to be competative with pricing as you are shopping around INTERNATIONALLY (they will try and put you off with things like no warranty, etc...ignore them, they are the same part #'s).
Cheers
Andrew

I use the same pad that I use it on the road, well. I love to use pads that are fully compatible on the road. The only draw back is some noise and dust, but they work from 0 degree on ward and that is streetable to me.
Mazda OEM is some a brand. They don't make themselves. Don't make thing complicated for yourself. Other countries may have the same number, but I will not surprise if it is not the exact same pad material.
I use Project Mu HC+.
EDIT: YES! I will put Project Mu HC+ or something similar in my Toyota Kluger if they make it in the same size, not OEM Toyota.

can't agree more than andrew and taka. I did use oem pads before on the street for almost a year, plus 2 track days. It does fade when you pushed it, but I can't see you fade the oem one on the street, unless you are doing a twisties run or do something silly.
I did use my project mu HC+ on street, just because I can't be bothered changing them

Depending on shipping to you, these guys are good*, are having a sale, are forum vendors https://www.rx8club.com/auto-rnd-91/racing-brake-specials-132328/. The RB gear has from OEM replacement to this fancy stuff if you need/want it.
*very helpful advice and easy to work with from personal experience.

There are many "the best" pads. I only look at stopping distance and initial bites in all pads. I don't care how much noise or dust it makes as long as it stops the best and have the best feel on the street.

Thanks for the help guys.
I've checked with Paradise Mazda and the price quoted to me was..... wait for it... $1160.
Onlinemazda.com have given me a price of about AU$600 delivered to my door and fitting looks like it will cost about $150. So all up $750 which is not a bad saving compared to getting the dealership to do it.
I'm pretty happy with the feel of the oem rotors and pads and the change is more a necessity than just giving my RX8 some bling (my rotors and pads are almost worn out)
I'll look into the RB stuff, i've sent them an email.
I guess my question is whether or not there are any rotor and pads that can be had for less then $750 that are better then oem for street use.

Ah! Parasite, sorry Paradise motors, say G'day to Peter McKeo he is the Parts Manager, he started in the game after me, but has lasted far longer, Peter has been there for 25 years!...he is the tall bald one.
I will be getting my facelift 8 from Paradise next year, they are the ONLY Mazda Dealer in Adelaide I would buy anything from.
Personally, Mazda pads are crap, they do not last and they are dirty bastards.
I also bought and sold Australian made Bendix (metal kings), Mazda did not like it but the customers did, and NO the metal in the pads did not wear out rotors.
You are in Adelaide, go to Tilbrooks Brake Service in Currie Street, I used to buy all my Bendix pads from them (wholesale).
They will give you up to date advice.

Its good to know about the Bendix as I haven't used them. I had no issues what so ever (squeal, dusting, etc) with the OEM pads and that was street and track use...
As for the RB, as Spin9k suggested they are good stuff. Have a look at the RB website, see what it would cost you (Shipping 4 rotors would be around 2-300USD) and then speak to Rishy (Endless Rotaries). But you need to hurry as their prices are going up in the new year.

I've been happy with the EBC Red Stuff pads but also found the OEM pads fine for street work.
As for rotors, if you're only on the street just stick with the OEM's. Get 'em imported as advised by the other guys to save some dough and you'll be laughing.
