Lightbulb Front number plate mount

First off, I love my 8. My wife loves my 8 (well she bought it for me), and my dog loves my 8.

There is one thing though, the front number plate holder is a little too large for my white NSW licence plate. The mounting looks like it's designed for the standard Yellow plates. Has anyone here had the same thing, and replaced it with a different mounting? I'll check tonight to see how the current thing is mounted on the grill but any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

You can just attach it direct to the nosecone -- but you have to take the nosecone off to do it....worthwhile doing when you fit your Hymee grill kit...which you are going to fit, aren't you

Aaron,

If you unscrew the numberplate, you will see two bolts holding the plate holder onto the front grille.

Undo these two bolts, chuck out the plate holder, redrill new holes on your plate and you can attach directly to the grille.

Voila!

BTW, good to see you're enjoying your 8, mate! :p

trim the number plate holder.
ie.
get a marker and draw two line top and bottom so you know where to trim.
remove the front plate (two screws/bolts)
remove number plate holder (two bolts, from memory, i think its 10mm)
trim it/cut it

I trimmed mine, like Ezzy. It's easy to cut with a sharp Stanley knife, and I like the way the front plate sits out from the grille using this method.

I managed to get our Mazda dealer to trim the front plate holder to slimline plate size prior to delivery. I guess least he could do when I bought an original batch at full list.

Thanks guys.

I'll try the trim n slim method (it's a bit like extreme makeovers eh?) and if that doesn't work I can always chuck it. Pity we have to have the front plate attached. I mean with a car like this the only view others have of it is it's rear.....

And yes, I'm scraping money around for the Hymee Grill kit.

Hey EZZY!
Very, very nice "and clean" black 8!
I could shave my face in the reflection!
Great mods too!
Are you de-badged in the rear too?
One last question?
How come your steering wheel is on the passangers side???

Personally, I think mounting it directly to the grill looks cleaner. Like nojooc explained. I trimmed the plate holder first, but it sticks out too far. Plus it takes longer to trim the plate holder than it does to drill 2 new holes in the plate. my 0.02

Not to question how you want your 8 to look EZZY, but personally I'd rather have at least the bonnet on. Although it may improve your time over the 1/4. j/k :D

When I took delivery of the car, the guys already ditched the plate holder and the slimline plate are attached direct to the grill. There are a couple of extra holes in my plates now, but you hardly see them with the protectors on.

Cheers,
Hymee.
