Fuel Additives

I thought that I read in an earlier post somewhere that additives should not be added to the RX8 as it can damage the catalyst converted. The Rosenthal Mazda site it sells "Fuel System & injector cleaner" so am I mistaken or is it only certain additives ? Is it OK to used something like "Spitfire Injector Cleaner"

............................................... I am stunned. Get a owner's manual and show them. Maybe the Fuel system and injector cleaner is not for RX-8...?!

As it is a rotary engine, would there be any deposit on the injectors?

I hate how they offer the "injector clean" at a service when it says in the book not to. They don't pull them out and clean them, then just tip the cleaner through (AFAIK).

Cheers,
Hymee.

Why would a car < 12months old need injector cleaner anyway?

This probably needs checking, but I have heard that preium fuels already contain an injector cleaning compound.

Concerning catalytic converter contamination, I think it unlikely that any commercial cleaners will do any damage. On their labels, they all claim to contain "100% hydrocarbons". I think it unlikely that any hydrocarbon would survive the combustion temperatures in a catalytic converter. It's things that contain metals that you have to worry about - they're the most likely thing to stuff up the catalyst.

Mazda's warning is probably akin to labels on clothing advising you how to clean the garment - **** covering, in other words.

Goods points.

No doubt injectors need cleaning at some stage in their life. I object to it being an unnecessary money grab by the service department on unwitting customers.

Cheers,
Hymee.
