Noted. But does anyone have a Pettit SC in Australia? Can you even get one here?

Sound, performance, tunability and price and the fact that so ,many people also don't like them for those same reasons. It's something not so mainstream ans a bit unique and different as everyone else has piston engine cars.So if you ask me, keep the rx8 and make it full house(please!).I respect the performance specs of evos and porches etc but rear wheel drive rotaries are where my heart is at. Definantly not porches(yuk)..Are the prices and power figures out yet for the Hymee s/charger??
I respect that point of view Matt and understand there are pure rotary fans on here who just love that kind of engine.

However, I'm not a rotary nut and appreciate that there are many piston engines out there which do a fantastic job at motivating some great machinery.

We're all different, thank the Lord.

Unless you need semi-useable back seats. Since I do, it's not even on the radar for me.

I also have a problem with Porsche's cynical pricing of the Cayman. It's a pure marketing gouge IMHO.

Plus, it really is just a poor man's 911.

And in coupe form the weird styling starts to make at least some sense.

I reckon this thing will make a great track weapon. A classic case of small car, big engine - always a hoot.

A lot will depend on sticker price though.

What do you reckon they will be asking for it Timbo?

Pics of 1 series BMW coupe enjoy .

Dont expect it will be cheap with the twin turbos between $70- 80,000.

Cheers Michael.

I'm still not exactly overwhelmed with lust but it's a huge improvement on the hatch shape and I think a turn behind the wheel would soften its appearance still further, lol.

Pricing for the 135 will be key. BMW have to do it carefully, so as not to cannibalise the 335, and show a step up the 130i. I suspect 80-90, actually (that's OTR, configured as you'd want it...as opposed to BMW 'base' RRP )

Point taken about base RRP. Mind you, if they can convince eastern suburbs luvvies that they need heated seats and titanium shopping hooks to keep up with the Joneses, good on them.

If they can get it OTR for under 80K, I'll definitely be having a test drive.

Who am I kidding - I'm going to test drive it anyways, hahaha. Wheeee!!!!

Careful! 'er indoors says I can get any car I want, as long as it has heated seats (shut up Gomez! ) Must say, had they have been available and affordable 20+ years ago, I'd probably have more than three offspring as a consequence!

Mate, considering you live in winter's arsehole, you're excused such a wild aberration in specification.

Otherwise, WAY TOO MUCH INFO about your previous mating habits.

The CX-7 LP would be ace for the occasional horizontal timbo tango...easy to clean leather, heated seats, oodles of room, massive central storage bin for those essential items (furry handcuffs, etc).

One of these might suit you too, Rev??!!

Nah.

'Er Indoors likes the look of them but one of the reasons we downsized from a Falcon wagon to the Mazda 6 was to save on fuel costs for the 90% of the time she runs around the suburbs, so I can't see us buying another wagon that from all reports drinks like a fish.

We've also found the 6 sedan more than big enough for our needs. See what happens as the mini-terrorists grow though...

Of all the Mazfix turbo installs (12 - 15 now) there is only two that frequent the forums - MLC on the au site and dbrx8 on the .com forum.

Timbo exactly what dont you believe about Archies "claims"?

My car is booked in for a Mazfix stage one kit in January. Once done i will keep posting regular updates on its performance.

Good on you chrx8er.

Archie impressed me at the last Nats as a sensible and decent bloke. I've got no reason to doubt him. Please don't misunderstand me - I WANT this kind of aftermarket FI option to be successful, as it opens up more choice for the rest of us that are still umming and ahhing whether to fork out for it.

However, it does make it hard for people to critically assess the value of fitting these types of kits (especially when the supplier and installer is a state away) when customer feedback is so limited (at least in here where a lot of us depend on the info we need about the car).

Look forward to hearing more from you after you've had it for a while.

Yep...the 'true believers' will always want to hold sway...and I can understand that...heck, I've been there. But reality eventually breaks through.

As to Archie...I have nothing against him at all...my point was the general tendancy of vendors in all fields to ..er.. 'optimise' their claims of success

By my recollection, based on the claims I've seen/heard, there should be at least 50 FI 8's in Australia -- covering Mazfix, ProMaz, RotorMaster and various GReddy, yet we hear nothing of them here or on the .com.au site, which seems strange as you'd expect these people to be 'bleedin edge' enthusiasts.

I guess it all comes back to whether you have rotaries in the blood. I have to say I was mesmerised, but there are distinct problems in having such a different powerplant. We have to acknowledge this.

If Mazda released something as sexy looking and as innovative as the 8, with say the 2.3L FI motor and RWD (plus some equipment updates) I'd be up it so fast it'd make your eyes

So I hear.

Your 'Er Indoors may beat mind in a straight line but the 6 is a lovely thing to drive and handles sweetly while only sipping at what the CX-7 is guzzling.

We'll look at what's around when the 6 gets a few years on it I reckon...
